My personal email account, which I've had for about 12 years, is sending spam out. The email has no subject, is a link, and I think it goes to a porn site from what people are telling me. I ran my antivirus program as well as a spyware program a friend sent me. Laptop is coming back clean. What do I do? Change my password? Contact the email account help line? Suck it up and cancel the account? I already deleted all my contacts after exporting the list so if it tries to do it again my address book is blank...
Could it be my blackberry? Ugh I hate hassels like this.
TIA for any help!
Re: (NBR) Any IT people out there?
If you've run both antivirus and spyware (the most up to date versions) and they come back clean, it sounds like your account was hacked. Try changing your password and see if it still occurs.
Also, you may want to run a malware program in addition to what you already did just to make sure you don't have any "hidden" malicious applications running.
Changing your password is the fastest way to fix this type of hack into your account.
Generally, what you're describing is a hack of a specific account, not an entire system hack. (That would by why your spyware scans and whatnot are coming back clean.)
In my experience, getting in touch with the administrator for accounts like yahoo, msn, gmail, ymail, etc will be of no help for this type of issue.
