Going to Ikea Saturday - best shoes for swollen feet?

DH and I are going to Ikea on Saturday.  I've been wearing sandals and flip flops all the time, but am wondering if sneakers would be better for walking around all day.  Thoughts - Especially from anyone who spends a large majority of the day on their feet?

I should probably try on my shoes to make sure they actually still fit....

  • It's either flip flops or my Keens if I'm going to be doing any walking.

  • I've been wearing my FIT flops all summer.  They are flip flops with the comfort of tennis shoes.  LOVE THEM!

  • I'd stay stick with the sneakers if you can still fit into them comfortably!

He's growing up, but he'll always be my baby!

  • My feet get way too hot in sneakers (i.e. more swelling) so I've been wearing my Reef flip flops everywhere.  They actually have arch support and one pair has an air-cushioned heel.  I couldn't live without them!

Btw, have fun at Ikea!  I haven't been in several months, but I love to just go and walk around.  They do have some awesome food  ;-)

I'm a Reef snob and they're the only flip flops I'll wear.  Maybe I'll just bring flops and shoes with me so I can run out to the car to change if I need to.

  • Tennis shoes or Keens work for me. The compression actually feels good when I'm walking for long periods of time. But I do keep a pair of back-up flip flops with me at all times!
  • I've had foot swelling the ENTIRE time, and honestly, if I am doing a lot of walking, tennis shoes are great.  I just loosen them up so they fit, but at the end of the day they are less swollen & hurt less from walking long distances.

And I'm totally jealous of you going to Ikea!!  I told DH that we couldn't go until we had our list of things done - clean the garage out, a few other things.  I am a foolish woman!  lol!

We move so often with the Navy that we prefer them to destroy Ikea furniture than more expensive furniture.  Our trip this weekend is to buy a new bed.  We're currently sleeping on a full and have been meaning to get a queen for 2 years now.  I'm very excited to finally have a larger bed.

  • Reefs!  I thought it might help when I was setting up my classroom to wear tennis shoes and I was really uncomfortable because my feet had swollen.  I dread the day I can no longer wear my Reefs to school.

  • Rainbow flip flops.  I LOVE them, they are THE ONLY shoe I've worn all summer.  There is nothing like a good pair of broken in (leather) Rainbows.  And BTW I love Ikea and I'm jealous because the closest one to me is an hour and a half away :(

  • My feet have been swollen for months and when I went back to work I had to stop wearing flip flops because they would be so swollen by the end of the day that I could barely walk (couldn't elevate my feet enough).  What I've had to do is get up, quickly take a shower, put on pants, and then put on my tennis shoes and leave them on.  It's so much easier to walk around in them and the only way I can get them on is if I put them on first thing in the morning.  Also, if you can get some compression hose that helps SO MUCH, too.  It may be hot to wear tennis shoes but right now I'm more comfortable in them than sandals for longer periods of time.
  • Even though it's difficult to get my walking shoes on in the first place, and even harder to tie them, I find my swelling goes down once I've got them on. I've got a pair of New Balance made for walking, and my feet feel awesome when I'm wearing them. Flip flops and other shoes are easy to slip on, but my feet get so swollen and both my feet and ankles feel bruised after wearing them for a little while. I'd definitely vote for some good gym shoes, walking shoes in particular if you've got them.
  • I would still wear sandals or flip flops. But then again I dont think Ikea is really that big. We usually walk through it in an hour or less. Your a better woman than me if you can spend the whole day there.
  • If I were you, I'd wear one type of shoe and stuff the other on my purse/bag in case I needed to change. I dunno how your Ikea is, but if I had to go out to the car and change at ours, I'd be adding about a mile including winding my way out of the store and back to the journey on already swollen feet. Ouch!
