Help me be logical

I have a wedding this weekend.  The downside is it's going to be pretty cool for the dress I was going to wear.  Tell me it's ok to wear the black dress pants I have and just go find a nice new top and not go find a new dress that I will never wear again.

TIA

Re: Help me be logical

  • I wear dress pants to weddings all of the time (dresses don't usually work for me, the hips are always in the wrong place).

Go buy a cute dressy top and some fun jewelry and call it a day!

  • Sorry, babe, I can't get on board with that. I think you need to get a dress. :(

  • Can you wear a cardigan or pashima over the dress? Is it tights-friendly or do you have to wear nylons with it?

  • It's ok to wear pants and a dress shirt.

However, if I were going shopping anyway I'd probably get a dress because I find dresses more comfortable than pants these days.

  • Unless you are in the bridal party and are required to wear that dress then you are a-okay to go with the black dress pants and a cute new top. I am attending a wedding on October 3rd and it'll be a little chilly so I also plan on black slacks and a dressy top.

Heck, I have known of many people going wearing jeans and cute tops......though I think jeans are a little tacky for a wedding.

  • I don't see the big deal plus your pregnant and everyone always gives the pregnant girl a free pass to do/wear what she wants. I've seen people wear some pretty casual things to some weddings. Otherwise you could always go to Target and find a cheap little jersey knit dress you could dress up.

ETA: Gap also has extra 20% off sale online and extra 25% off sale in stores. Maybe you can find something not too expensive from there.

  • Can you find a cute cardigan for the dress?  Have you considered renting a dress?

This.  I wore the same dress for all of my weddings this year b/c I did not want to spend on more than one dress I wouldn't wear after pregnancy.  For the last two weddings I wore it to I got a dressy crop open cardigan to wear with the dress and the cardigan I can wear after pregnancy as well.

  • Maybe I don't have fancy friends or relatives, but I've worn black pants and a nice shirt to weddings, especially weddings in the fall.

  • The dress I have now is sleeveless, so not a big deal to find something to go over it, but it's pretty light and short.  Not the type to wear tights with it.  Granted the wedding will be indoors, the weather forecast is good change of rain and 57.  So cold and crappy.  Ugh.

  • Meh.. I'm the biggest tomboy ever and HATE wearing dresses, but I could never wear pants to a formal event or wedding. I bought a mat dress for a wedding I went to in July -- I'll never wear it again either but I looked cute at the time.

  • Honey, You're pregnant you can wear sweats if you want to! Stick out tongue

No but seriously you can do dress pants if you prefer.  DH and I went to a wedding recently and I admittedly brought mocassin slippers and changed into them at the reception. I joked about it, cause I would never do that normally, but people loved it and thought it was a fantastic idea, and commented that they even matched my dress! haha, It's great what we can get away with in the name of comfort these days :)
