3rd Trimester

Remind me (question from TTC days)

You can experience symptoms of ovulation and still not drop an egg, right?

I am EBF, on the mini-pill, and have still not had a period pp, yet I'm experiencing EWCM and my face is breaking out like it always used to when I O'd.  We've been using condoms as back-up protection (I'm paranoid like that after all the BFP posts on 0-3) but we had an oopsie last night and I have no desire for 2U1.

Also, are any of y'all considering charting after your babies are born, to TTA?  I'd like to but is there any point since you can't really count on a baby to have consistant sleep habits?  Betsy's always been a good sleeper but at least once a week she's awake during the night, especially lately--I think we hit the 4 month wakeful period a little early.

Re: Remind me (question from TTC days)

  • When I was on BCPs for my first IVF I had a TON of EWCM. Maybe it's just the hormones from the pill.

Yes, you can experience the symptoms of ovulation and not drop an egg.

  • Sure can.  I was charting while TTC this baby and one cycle, I never ovulated.  I had several days of EWCM, several days of +OPK's, but never a temp shift.  Then it was like my body tried again with the EWCM, but again, it never happened that cycle.

  • Symptoms of ovulation are the result of hormones and there's a whole host of things that can cause your hormones to freak out sometimes.  If you're EBF and on the mini-pill, I really wouldn't worry too much about a couple side effects.  (I was also EBF and on the mini-pill with DS and AF didn't arrive for almost a year - I think this is pretty common?)  When in doubt though, mental relief is only a pregnancy test away...
  • Hooray!  That makes me feel better.  Thanks, y'all.

There was a post on TTGP yesterday where the girl was all "LOLZ! I'm one of the few that can actually feel my egg drop!" and I responded, but I think she DD'd.

Dang, I wanted to know what an "egg drop" felt like. I asked if it was like a "PLUNK" stone in a pond feeling, or "POOF" exploding from ovary feeling.

I've always imagined it as more of a PFFT feeling, like spitting watermelon seeds out of your mouth.

  • It actually feels kind of like an RLP, a sharp, sudden pain in the side of your abdomen. Not everybody feels it, and if you're not charting, you probably would never associate the feeling with ovulation.

  • I have considered using FAM as birth control after the baby is born (because we want to ttc soon thereafter, but not TOO soon). When I was doing it before our bfp, I didn't always chart temps and relied on cm, cp and opks. Worked pretty well.
