Maybe this is my first UO...
Abbot Labs reported that 99.8% of the samples they tested were NEGATIVE for beetles or beetle bits. That makes it HIGHLY unlikely that the formula I fed my son yesterday was beetle juice! It is MUCH more likely they he will pick up a beetle (or other bug) out in the yard and eat it in the next few years.
We have 3 containers, including one that is almost empty, of the recalled Similac. Of course, we aren't going to use it and it's a pain, but I'm not freaking out over it. I was thinking of switching to Up&Up anyways, so this seemed like a good time to try something different. If it doesn't work out, we'll go back to Similac. DS has been having some tummy issues, but he always has off and on. I am not jumping to the conclusion that tainted formula is the cause. If so, great...that means we found the cause and it will clear up in a few days.
The same thing could happen to any manufacturing plant. At least they are recalling the product in question.
Re: Anyone w/ recalled formula NOT freaking out?
I'm not. Went to Wal-Mart, got some concentrate, got on with my life. We even stopped at Popeye's on the way home, so I probably ate some beetle juice or other bug parts myself.
It's not a big deal.
Same with the tummy issues. And Addison has been extra fussy. But really...I will return my formula to Sam's and get some more liquid. Hopefully she feels better soon.
I pump and supplement with similac. I finished a can the other day and heard about the recall yesterday evening, so I checked the can....sure enough...it was one of the ones under recall. Is it gross, sure. Am I going to panic, no. I called the pedi and they assured me it is highly unlikely anything will happen but if it does, they can treat it quickly and easily.
I won't switch to another brand just because of this, but I will buy RTF until the issue is resolved and I can be sure the cans I buy are bug-free.
I'm freaked out, I'll admit it. DD has had tummy issues for the last few days - diarrhea, increase in spitting up, refusal to eat. Yesterday she straight up vomited (not spit up, but forceful vomiting large amounts) a few times. It all makes sense now.
So, yes, I am freaked out and I think its justified. My kid has AR anyway so she doesn't need anything else to upset her poor tummy. I am bullshit angry.

THIS!!! They never said "out of the ___# of cans tested, only ___ were affected" I'm not reassured at all by that, especially seeing that my DD had definite signs of gastrointestinal distress.
I wouldn't classify me as "freaking out" over it. I heard about it, checked to see if ours was recalled. It was so I went & bought the liquid formula to use for now.
However, the recall could explain why DS has been spitting up so much (granted, it could be something else, we'll find out). Since giving him the liquid premade stuff, he hasn't been spitting up.
I BF but supplement a few ounces a day. And the only reason I use Similac is cause we have a freebie container of it. If we had a freebie of Infamil, it wouldn't be an issue, so that is annoying.
That being said, ours wasn't recalled.
I'm going to finish this canister out and switch the Up and Up.
I hesitate to use the liquid forms because I don't know if the plastic containers are BPA free. If not, it leaches into the formula.
I'm with you, I'm not freaking out. What's done is done. I had to go to the store to pick up new stuff yesterday after the recall and she was hungry as we were leaving the house. But I didn't want to give her another bottle of the recalled stuff.
I also might be alone in this, but I have no desire to change formulas even after this. Something like this could happen to any of the companies. We tried Enfamil and one generic before and she clearly tolerates Similac the best.
I also agree with PP that Similac is being responsible by owning up to everything and doing their best to clean up the problem.
This . .
LOL and ::waves to the local::! I have to get a picture posted of K in her saints dress.
We use similac when we have to supplement, and while it sucks, I'm not too worried. He's out of formula right now so I don't even know if what he had was part of the recall. I just won't get similac next time we have to buy some.
sorry.. i have to...
LOL...I ate a hot dog yesterday! I don't even want to know what was in it! DH says hot dogs are all lips and b-holes!
LOL...Just don't post it three times!!
That's what my mom was saying last night...I am actually relieved because it made me finally try the Enfamil my pedi said to try if DS didn't get better. He burped so quick today and didn't fight his bottle. Maybe this was the sign I needed to not finish out the Similac I had.
