walking shoes...

Okay can I buy any shoes to walk in or do I need special shoes? I am clueless.

I think the little ladies are about ready to turn in the crawling shoes for walking shoes:)

Help!

Re: walking shoes...

  • I let Henry run around bare foot this summer because it is the best thing for their little piggies especially since we were home a lot.  I got some sandals for him for going out but he wasn't interested when out and about.  I forked for stride-rite's this past weekend because he will start walking more plus I really can't haul him around too well so this Fall and Winter he needed some good supportive shoes.

I just want to add, DAYLIGHT robbery!  I paid more for the Stride-rites than I did for DS1's Skechers!!

  • My family has always sworn by Stride Rite so it was passed on to me.  My mom insisted that O have the Stride Rite walking shoes.  They come up a little higher around the ankle for support and the bottoms don't stick or slip like a lot of other sandals/shoes so they don't fall as much.  Olivia wore these as soon as she started to get ready to walk.  It took her a few days to get used to wearing them while she was still crawling for the most part.
  • We did barefoot at first then went to Stride Rite. They send lots of coupons. Plus I only get Maggie two pair per season so it's not too expensive. I prefer to spend an extra bit on shoes that fit well, she never had luck with shoes from Target etc.

  • DD goes barefoot unless we are outside.  Right now I have some soft shoes from Payless, but we'll go to Stride Rite when she's really running around outside on a regular basis.  Her feet are too chubby for shoes from Target and the like, she needs wide widths.  I'd rather spend more money on a couple pairs of good shoes that will last her a while.
  • Ditto the barefoot recommendation.

Also, I have heard great things about the smart fit brand from Payless (I have heard they re made by stride rite but I am not sure on that). They have a hard but flexible sole.

  • Barefoot as much as possible and Pedipeds otherwise.  We bought several pair from their website and they have lots of cute styles and decent prices.
  • My sister worked for Stride Rite throughout high school and college; but I still can't get past the prices and drink the Kool-Aid.  She claims that as long as the shoes have a flexible sole (as close to barefoot walking as you can get), none are really much "better" than the other.
  • We do barefoot or Robeez till the kiddos are really really steady on their feet... I think it's a lot harder for them to walk with hard soled shoes on.

Anywho, once steady we do Stride Rite too.  My kids tend to have wide/chubby feet and their shoes fit really well.  And they ALWAYS outgrow them before they wear out so it's not like you need to buy multiple pairs in each size.   They're really well made, worth the $$.  Maybe you could do a good every day pair from Stride Rite then pick up shoes somewhere cheaper for dress up days.

  • I also like Stride Rite shoes.  However, I recommend going to the SR at Rookwood or Kenwood because they have a better selection of shoes than the store at the Florence Mall.

I like buying DD leather shoes because her feet get so sweaty and I can't see how fake leather shoes would breathe.

Robeez are owned by Stride Rite - the pair that DD wears most of the time now are Robeez and they are pretty similar in quality.

I also like buying shoes from Zappos if you know what size to get (or not, since they have free shipping both ways if they end up not fitting, and they ship quickly since they ship from KY).  They also have a good selection of Stride Rite, Robeez, Pedipeds, See Kai Run, and other brands that are highly recommended for little feet.

  • We did barefoot for a long time...

Then I bought a pair of cheap Target shoes that had flexible soles.

Then he had 2 pairs of Robeez Tredz that I found through someone on here- those were THE BEST "I just learned how to walk shoes."  Look online/CL/ebay, etc... and maybe you'll find a good deal!
