I saw a post here a while ago about this. Does anyone remember the consensus?
DH suggested it last night and I thought it was a bit random. But is Cole actually a nn for Nicholas? I see it is on the babynames website, but I wanted to get your opinions too!
TIA!

I know a Kenneth who goes by Cole. Is that not random?
I agree. I think I prefer it as a stand alone name.
I think you could definitely pull it off, but unless he is known mostly by Cole, people will tend to go for Nick instead. It's like the rare Christopher that goes by Topher instead of Chris.
Cole is a name in itself if that's what your going for.
I posted on the same topic. Here's a link (it if works) https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/41019240/ShowThread.aspx#41019240

I do prefer Cole but as others have pointed out it will be a challenge as most people will want to call him Nick.
I voted "Yes", but I would've voted "Other" if it were an option.
We love the name Cole, and tossed around the idea of naming DS Nicholas, nn Cole. Ultimately, we decided that we loved just "Cole" by itself, and were just "eh" about Nicholas.
I think its one of those names that can be used as it's own name, as well as being a nn for something else (like Jack or Drew).

You can NN your child whatever you want. To me, it's a bit of a stretch though.
If you like the name Cole, why not call him Cole?

I think we both actually prefer Nick, DH just knows Cole was also on my list and was trying to come up with a suggestion to kill 2 birds with one stone
