TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Small Town Life

I went to "town" today, I ran out of caramel apples, so it was a necessity.  I noticed that one of the local banks got a new sign and that it's animated.  There is a frog on the screen and he flicks his tongue out and "eats" the time so the temp. will pop up, then he "eats" the temp, so the time comes back.  Very sophisticated stuff for where I live.

I decided to grab a cup of coffee to catch up on the local happenings and of course the new bank sign was the topic of discussion.  The general consensus is that the sign is dangerous, it's a distraction.  THOSE teenagers won't be able to keep their eyes on the road.

I love my small town, but I'm both Indifferent and image

  • Sounds like where I grew up.  We had one stop light and zero fast food places!  Obviously it has changed since.
  • Are you sure you don't live in my town?  The entire town was up in arms for a whole month because someone chopped down a tree at the local fisherman's memorial.  There was even a facebook group to exchange theories (talk about sophisticated!).

  • Party!!! Squee! New signs!

Super Angry Rawr! Danger on the roads!

  • That's too funny.  Keep us posted on THOSE teenagers.

  • Sounds like where I grew up too, we didn't have any red lights at all. The biggest news my senior year was that the town I went to school in (which wasn't my home town) got an Arby's.

I hope THOSE teenagers don't hit the new sign and ruin the fun!

  • So funny, lets hope those rowdy teenagers don't get distracted from the sign.

  • How funny!  I have always lived in big cities, but it has always sounded so neat to me to live in a small town.  Maybe someday...

  • I live on Long Island NY and there is really no "small towns" although the town DH and I live now is as close to small town life as you an get.  We have a "main street" that they shut down for every little thing and have parades (even a Halloween parade for towns kids/pets) and we ahve a "st. James day" where they close down the roads and everyone hangs out.   I LOVE it.

  • I'm really a big city girl but was briefly held capitive in Clarksville TN as a newlywed and for one solid week the headline story in the newspaper was the building of the new Shoneys.  In fact, Shoney's is so important to life there - they built the new one before tearing down the old one so no one would have to go a day without Shoneys.

That is some Shoneys love right there! I love that you describe it as being held captive!

  • Ahhh, I can relate.

I grew up in a TINY town in Michigan. When word of a McDonalds coming to town got out it made the front page top fold section of the local paper! And even more sad, opening day we had our first ever rush hour. The line of cars to hit the drive thru stretched nearly 1/2 a mile down the road and the police (both of them) were called in to do "crowd" control.
