Reducing swelling

Is it true that drinking a lot of water can reduce swelling? I would think it's the opposite.

My wedding ring is a bit tight this morning. I'm not even going to attempt to put on my e-ring but hate the idea of going ringless completely.

What has helped you?

Re: Reducing swelling

  • Water has definitely helped me. (Or so I would like to believe!) That and keeping my hand above 'heart level' if YKWIM.

  • I've only recently started swelling at the end of the day and I do notice it's not as bad if I drank a ton of water that day.  Fluid pushes fluid so it does make sense that it would help.  Assuming you're not taking in a ton of salt or whatever.
  • It seems backas$wards but it's what my mw's rec'd to me.

Thanks, ladies. I will chug it even more today!

It does seem backward. My mom is the one who told me that, but she hasn't had a baby in 30 years so I don't take much of her advice to heart!

  • My doc told me lots of water because it flushes out other fluids and toxins, low sodium, and put my feet up (she said even sleep with my feet elevated somtimes if possible). All of the above have helped immensely! Every time my feet swell I start chugging toss up my feet and within a few hours they start to go down.

  • Lots of water and a doctor at my practice told me last week to eat watermelon, asperagus, and to drink tea because they are natural diuretics.  I've been eating watermelon like a crazy person for the last week and my feet actually look like feet again!
