Hi everyone ,
As many people on this board have noted too, I am a runner and just found out a couple of days ago that I am pregnant with my first. I have run twice since I found out prior today and then headed out today for a nice easy 30 minute jog. As soon as I started, I felt like my lower spine, hips and upper thighs were extremely tense. I have never felt this before and haven't done anything weird in the last couple of days that would make me sore there. After a couple of minutes of running, everything eased up and I felt great.
Anyone else ever had this feeling before? No idea if its due to pregnancy but it was just strange.
TIA!
Re: Running in early pregnancy + back pain?
BFP#1: 7/23/10, EDD 4/1/11, MC/DNC 9/29/10(14wks)
BFP#2: 1/12/11 CP (6 Weeks)
BFP#3: 6/26/11, EDD 3/4/12, Natural MC 8/5/11 (10wks)
That happened to me and I'm fairly sure it was due to relaxin. (Relaxin is the hormone that loosens your joints during pregnancy. I've read its present in 10x your normal amount during pregnancy and peaks at 14 weeks and then again right before delivery).
I am a runner as well and my joints definitely feel stiffer during pregnancy, but usually I loosen up about 5-10 minutes into my run. It did get better for me from about 16-24 weeks, but it's starting to come back a bit now that I'm nearing the end, but I'm so close at this point, I'm just gutting it out!
Thanks for the responses! That makes sense. And it definitely went away within a the first half mile.
Happy Running
