S/O: Anyone else not care that they spend $ on formula?

DD was FF from 6 months on, and DS from 3 months. It's a decision I/my body made. They are on regular formula. To me, it's like any other expense in my budget. I made a choice to have a child and all the costs that go with the kid. I'm NOT talking special formula that's outrageous. Just your run of the mill Enfamil.

I feel the same way about diapers. I don't get b!tching about it. Like, did you not know about diapers?

That is all.

Re: S/O: Anyone else not care that they spend $ on formula?

  • W was on Alimentum from 6 weeks to 13 months.  That's $25/can.  2-3 cans per week.

I never cared about spending the money.  It was a necessity.  End of story.

I am just blown away that someone can essentially steal formula from a hospital just because they think being a nurse affords them that opportunity.   And then come on here and _bitch about not being reimbursed for what was taken?  Call me harsh, but she's a disgrace to the medical profession.

  • Agreed, Bub. And getting reimbursed for something you didn't pay for is stealing. Straight up.

    I predict a DD today.

  • I BFed, but still got a crapton of formula for free, just by signing up with the formula companies (I traded the formula checks for coupons that I could use). I got TONS of samples in the mail, which I passed on to people who used it.

But I guess that requires some effort on her part, so wasn't an option.

  • I care about spending money on formula just like i care that my freaking kids have uped my grocery budget by like $75 a week!

    J/K

DD was on preemie formula for a while then high priced fancy stuff for a while, DS was EBF, but of course i was willing to pay to feed my child an would never complain about the expense. It is all part of having a kid, I expect to pay more for things.

That being said as I said in the post below the poster is getting more and more strange with each post I have zero respect for her at all.

  • I think this is where Giselle would say this is another reason we should all bf forever. I kid. Anyway, yeah, totally an expense like any other that you pay b/c you have to. A was on Nutramigen and I had WIC for her which I was greatful for but I still had to buy a ton out of pocket and that sh*t is expensive. The kid had to eat and I knew going into it formula wasn't cheap so I sucked it up. Idk, the post below was just weird.

  • Like, OMG, I'm not gonna get reimbursed for stuff I got for free?  That's SO unfair!! *hairflip*

    *stomps out of post*

  • I minded with the twins, mostly because I really wanted to exclusively breastfeed them through a year.  They never really nursed, and I ended up exclusively pumping for them for 7 months, but when we finally went to formula for my own sanity, I was mad at myself for not making the breastfeeding work, and for not pumping longer.  My body was fully capable of continuing if I had tried harder, and it was something important to me.  So buying the formula that we didn't really have to if I had done what I originally intended bugged the crap out of me.

  • I think formula costs is something that goes along with deciding to have a child.  Sure people plan to BF, but sometimes things don't go as planned.  I bought double for the entire first year, and yes, used Target brand, but still, it's basically an expense I CHOSE.

And about that name post....She said her BROTHER called to tell her the name of his GRANDSON....then said that her COUSIN named the child xxxx.  So.  did her Niece/Nephew marry their Cousin?  Or does she not understand how people are related?  Or is something backwards going on where her niece/nephew is ALSO her cousin?

  • Not only does it not bother me, I think the cost is totally worth it for me not to have to BF. How is that for flammable? Although I will admit that I hope we don't have to go to hypoallergenic for Scarlett like we did with Jackson. Of course, if she needs it, we'll happily pay for it - I'd just rather not.

  • It's a necessity; I wouldn't have cared about it any more than I care about having to buy diapers.  It would have sucked, but whatever.  You choose to have a child, you choose to pay the expenses that go with that choice.

Unless, of course, you're a nurse and can steal it from your employer.  Then I guess *free* formula is just a perk of your job, right?

I was a little late reading the post so I didn't reply, but THANK YOU for saying this.  It's exactly what I was thinking.  It made me cringe to read her post.  I work in a hospital where this just wouldn't fly.  In fact, people get fired for steeling *** that doesn't belong to them.  Freebies like that are for the patients, not for the staff to help themselves too (and then b1thch about not being able to return for cash).  Unbelievable.

ETA:  and no, buying formula wouldn't have bothered me if I hadn't breastfed.  It's like buying diapers.  You have a baby, you should know what expenses to expect and plan for.

  • Nope.  Never cared one bit.  However, I did notice the big difference in the price of the regular Similac that DS ended up on after I weaned and the Alimentum that DD ended up on.  But I didn't care.  Baby's gotta eat!  Same goes for diapers.  I choose to spend more $ on the more expensive diapers.

  • Hmm, clearly I didn't see the PP about stealing formula.  The older I get the more I find that a LOT of people lack a conscience.

  • To me--its all part of being a parent. I have 3 kids--all Nutramigen babies! Very expensive, but you do what you have to for your child. It doesnt last forever, and then you move onto the next expense. Those lil buggers arent cheap!!!
  • Whatever...I had these little fvckers to make my life easier.  The Olsen Twins had earned hundreds of thousands of dollars by the time they turned 2.  My kids haven't earned sh!t for me yet...and they cost WAY too much....if they were still drinking formula, you better believe they'd be drinking the beattle infested free samples....send them my way....free is SOOO much more important than sanitary....its just protien.
