Bottles?

Have any of you thought about what bottles you want to use?  I am getting my registry started bc DH's birthday is next month, and he's/we're hoping that his family will buy baby stuff instead of gifts this year.

I work at a daycare and a few of the kids use Playtex Ventaire, and that's what I'm leaning towards, but I'm not for sure!  I haven't googled this yet, but is there any type of bottle that works with any type of pump?  And are you going to go with regular or wide width?

Re: Bottles?

  • Well, not sure either but put the Ventaire on the registry and another type of bottles too. I am going to assume that with ALL the bottles out there, majority are for advertisement,, meaning things will be said so that the particular bottle will be sold. Not too worried about the bottles, cuz going to breastfeed and read that if you are going to breast feed, then don't introduce the bottle til after about a month. That's interesting too. I think any PBH free or BPA free is good anyways...

  • OMG!  I have no idea!  Haven't even thought of that!  This is when I'll bring friends and family in to help I guess.  Are there different breast feed bottles versus formula bottles?  I'm cluelees! lol.

  • We registered for Evenflo classic glass bottles.  I know they will fit the Medela pump I registered for and I avoid buying plastic when possible.

  • I have used the Born Free with the kids I nanny and I prefer those. The kids all took to them well and the bottles help a lot with reducing air and therefore gas. I've also heard good things about Dr Brown's.

  • We registered for Tommee Tippee bottles.  BRU is the only store that carries them, but they've been in Great Britain for years.  They are also BPA free!  I read reviews and they were all great.

  • Those ventaires are a PITA in the middle of the night with a NB, because you are tired and not thinking right and if they aren't on PERFECTLY straight they leak!  YUCK.  can you tell I wasn't a fan.  Once he was older they worked fine during the day.  Personally we liked the Playtex drop in when he was little.  The nice thing is that they are compatible nipples with the ventair, so if you want to get the 4 oz drop ins and switch to the ventaires later, get those in an 8oz.

We are getting drop in for the NB stage again, but I might use Dr. Browns for the 8oz ones.

  • Playtex Drop-ins were the best IMO.  Plus Walmart has the generic drop-ins so they aren't expensive!

They worked really well with BM too since I pumped at work.  I also used the Medela bottles which DS had no issues with either!  You can pump directly into them!

  • From what I've read, you should get a few different types because different babies take to different types better. Some have gas problems, others have nipple confusion, the list goes on. Dr. Browns seem to be a favorite on the Nursery/Baby Gear board, but the main complaint with those is there are a lot of parts to clean. I plan to register for about 3 different types and see what works best and then just buy some when we figure it out.

  • We are going with Tommee Tippee...my DH liked the way they looked and they seem like great nipples for a BF baby (we are going to try to BF and use bottles for pumped milk).  I've seen several recommendations on 0-3 months and the Nurseries and Baby Gear boards.
