How do I get him to shift?

For the last several days Ben has been practicing his Kung Fu Death Grip on my lower right rib.  Or he has a foot lodged there.  Something.  It pretty much hurts all the damn time.  And every once in a while he adds a good, solid thump, just to make sure I'm still paying attention.

I will take kicks the the bladder over this in a heartbeat.

Anything I can do to shift the little goomer?

Re: How do I get him to shift?

  • Ha ha ha...so cute!  But I know what you mean they are getting bigger so it HURTS now!

I just lay on my lefts side (or vice versa) and he seems to move.  If the DH is around all he has to do is put his hand on the area LO is in and my little LO swims to other side.  It's so funny, I don't think he likes my DH hand.

  • Yea, mine does that while I'm at work ALL the time. Usually I just get up and walk around a bit and she moves.

     This for me too.

  • You could try a flashlight?? Maybe stand in a dim or dark room and run a flashlight across your tummy?? I'm not sure if it would work... but if it does that would be pretty wild!

    ????????
  • I have this exactly!! I've been trying to figure out what to do too, I've tried bribing him (I'll give you ice cream if you move your foot and butt out of my right rib) but it hasn't worked so far.  I really hope someone has some ideas b/c it hurts like he!!.

Mine is doing the same damn thing!  And it does HURT!  I try rubbing firmly on my belly in circles.  That usually gets baby to move at least for a few minutes.  I swear this baby has got to be leaving internal bruises--I don't know how he/she could not!

  • I actually called the doctor yesterday because my lower right ribs hurt so bad!  he said it could be the baby, but it also could be the pain associated with my rib cage SEPARATING to accommodate the growing uterus.  (Yeah, I almost threw up thinking about that)

So if the baby is not moving around when you stand, poke, etc, it could just be the pain of the ribs moving (shudder).  He suggested regular tylenol.

  • Rubbing in a wide circle around my belly button while pushing down a little works for me most of the time!

  • Both DS#1 and this LO love(d) to stay lodged up in my ribcage. So far I have been able to do nothing that makes him remove his feet from my ribcage. I just have to adjust the way I'm sitting or laying to get more comfortable, although I have not been able to accomplish complete comfort. Sooo not helpful in response to your post, but yeah.

  • Ugh I wish mine would come near my rib cage - the low kicks hurt. We will miss this so much when it is gone though!
  • Maybe I'm just bad at this, but I can't tell where LO is. I usually just feel movement on one side or the other, but I have NO CLUE as to if he's kicking or punching. How do y'all know which way LO is or how they are moving?

  • I am in the same boat as you, she is usually wedged up under my right ribs. I never feel her on the left except when she shoots out a leg or wahtever to claim that space too. I try to push the heel of my hand into my abdomen and sometimes that moves her slightly but she always ends up back there again. Also I try to lay on my left side as much as I can, but it doesn't help very much.  GL hope he finds a new hiding place soon.

  • My little guy was doing this a lot over the weekend while DH and I were driving up to Delaware. I leaned to the opposite side and then gently but firmly pressed my whole palm against the spot where he was hurting me. He usually got the hint and shifted for me.

Sorry your kiddo is being so pesky, my DH enjoys reminding me that this is the kid's job for the next 18-25 years. ><
