This was said so perfectly. I don't necessarily think being all one way or the other is the right way. Kids need room to grow and explore on their own, but some parents take that too far and their kids end up acting terrible.

I agree! I think the point of the article was to say that many parents have gone waaay too far on the side of structured play and activities. I don't think anyone doubts the merit of a class or organized play date here or there. Balance is key, as with everything in life.
I agree with Joe. You can go too far to the other extreme and have what we around here call Free Range Children. That's not good, either. I wish it was easier to strike a balance.
