Does anyone had AP Peds?

I've heard sometimes you can find a ped that is encouraging and knowledgable about AP practices, and I was wondering how many of you found one? We are moving to Louisville, KY soon so we will be getting a ped in this area.

  • I've thought about moving to the Dr. Sears area, wherever that is, lol!

  • My peds are very hands-off in terms of parenting choices.  They don't say anything about sleeping and they basically said "you can start whatever solids other than choking hazards or honey anytime between now and 6 months".  Also, when we were having weight gain issues they helped me figure out a way to get DS more calories without weaning him (fortifying pumped BM).

  • DD's pediatrician doesn't market himself as an AP-pedi, but he is what I'd classify as "AP friendly."  We found him by word of mouth.
  • I did before we moved to Canada. He was a.maz.ing. We kept telling him we wanted to take him with us. He was in California though.

It is San Clemente, California which is about 20 minutes away from us. I didn't know this until a few months ago when we discovered some friends of our are AP and take their kids there. I wish I had known this when DD was a newborn!

  • We have a fantastic AP pedi and got completely lucky because our insurance only gives us the choice between 2.

This is pretty much our pedi.  He never asks about sleep besides is she getting enough and told us she doesn't need food before 6 months, but if we felt she was hungrier than normal we could offer foods (no specification of what).  That's how it should be IMO!

I do! She's a mom of 4 who BFed them all past 2, co-slept, has 3 intact sons, etc. She's very hands off with me and respects and encourages my AP decisions. I just love her! We switched to her after having a bad experience w/ another dr in town and hearing that she was very BFing friendly.

  • Our ped has never batted an eye at our AP style. I don't know if it's necessarily something she encourages, but she doesn't discourage us from it.
  • I live about 5 minutes from Dr. Sears.  I tried to get in their practice but I couldn't even get a phone call back.  When I asked other AP mommas, a lot said it's a very busy practice.  I got the general vibe that the Sears' doctors were more focused on their books, lectures, appearances, etc. than practicing medicine so I moved on.  Found a great local dr instead.  =)
