reverse cycling and/or teething?

So, school started back up a month ago.  Ds is slowly only taking one bottle - he just plays with them.  He's 9 months old and we rarely use bottles unless I'm not around.  He nurses fine all evening long.  We've been bed sharing since he's been waking up frequently because of teething and all of the other stuff, so it's not a nursing strike or really a bottle strike.  He starts off in his crib and then when he wakes up, I bring him to bed.  He eats on and off at night, but I'm sleeping so I usually don't notice much. He just doesn't have much interest in bottles during the day.    My mom watches him during the day and she said he eats other solids but not nearly what he would eat if I was serving him.  He's still gaining weight fine, i assume.  I weighed him on our bathroom scale, which obviously isn't accurate, but he was heavier then last time I did it.  i tried a faster flow nipple today since we had never changed from the slow flow.  He'll drunk milk from a sippy cup for me but after a little, he just lets it dribble out of his mouth. One little ol' tooth popped in about 2 weeks ago.  My mom insists she can see the other one, but I don't yet.  Used to be, he never met a food he didn't like.  He loved baked apple pieces but now he'll only eat finger food if it's puffs.Any suggestions except for wait it out?

Re: reverse cycling and/or teething?

  • I think you need to wait it out. It sounds like teething to me. When DS is teething, he'll chew food a little bit and then spit it out. He would usually drink more milk from bottles, but I'm sure every baby is different. Also, when he's teething, he pretty much nurses all night long.

I would continue to use the fast flow nipple and keep offering him food of different textures to see if he'll take any.

  • first just want to say i hve been there........i EBF and finally weaned DD at the age of 24 months....we coslept too............my dd had issues with the bottle too during daycare in the end she preferred drinking EBM from a cup and drinking straw i know it is crazy but my daycare was willing to do it...perhaps your mom can try it...GL
  • He does like a sippy.  I tried expensive ones and he ended up liking some take n toss cups.  He'll drink from them just fine.  He took more in the bottle today too - she used the faster flow.

can't wait till this man STTN.  I know he can - he's done it a few times.  We're going to get a mesh guard rail this weekend to make things a little easier.
