Similac recall

Every single container that I have has been recalled, including the one that she just finished this morning that was in the recyclable bin.  Great!  My daughter has probably consumed beetle larvae.

ETA: Please note that I had 4 containers of it all with different lot numbers so chances are all of it was recalled or I'm just really unlucky.  I now have nothing to feed her and have to wait for DH to get home to home to get her something to eat (since we are still sharing a car.)  I believe they are pulling all of the powered containers from the shelves and my only alternative is the liquid (which is pricey) or the single serve packets (which is probably also pricey.)  Not to mention that if all if the people who use this product are in the same predicament as me, will this stuff even be on the shelves???

Re: Similac recall

  • OMG, that stinks in so many ways. I'm sorry Nat.

Could you try her on another formula?  Or, bust out the boob!  lol

  • Natalee, can you tell me which lot numbers you had that were bad?

We had Aislyn on it (she was throwing up on it, so we switched) and now the webiste is not working.

  • Shan- From what I've been told, you're not supposed to just switch formulas on them, especially at such a young age because their little tummys can't handle it.

Teresa- Here are the ones that I have:

    89256T26

    91485T20

    89245T20

    89250T20

I can't get on the website either, but here is the phone number: (800) 986 8850.  I called earlier to see what I should do since she already ate it so I had it in my phone.  I honestly think that all of the powder was recalled because the stores were told to pull all of it.  They were doing it in BRU when Bri was in there and then I went to CVS to get more just in case and the manager told me that they were told to pull it all.

We bought 2 bottles of concentrate and 6 bottles of ready to use which should last us about 10 days.  Hopefully this issue is resolved by then.  because this cost us $42 with a $5 off check.  Eff this recall!

  • Natalee, first I need to thank you for posting this.  Keep trying the website. it will work if you are consistent.

Unfortunately the stores that I went to were not informed and I had to show them on my phone. after 1.5 hours Mya, Ava & I found a can that wasn't recalled.

In the meantime (just in case) what about mixing a different formula with what you half just to make it last longer and slowly get her used to it?

Regardless, I hope Similac gets their S*** together really soon!

  • I had a friend on food stamps who switched formula every couple of weeks because only some were available at the time or whatever.  Her baby just just fine.  Maybe just compare ingredients and find the closest one to your formula.

I'm going to try to stick it out and hope it gets resolved soon.  Although I'm sure it probably would be fine to do, I really don't want to mess up a good thing.  Caroline is (knock on wood) a good sleeper, eater and generally very pleasant.  She very rarely fusses.  I would really hate to mess any of this up by switching her formula, especially when I'm trying to get her on schedule for my return to work.  The extra cost does suck especially when I'm going to be skipping a paycheck since my last 2 weeks of leave will be unpaid, but I don't think this is a time when I can take chances.

    Thanks for the suggestions!!

  • That is so disgusting!!  For the most part I BF Gavin but he did have formula once in awhile and FWIW I just used whatever free samples I had in the house at the time, always switching...he seemed to be fine.
  • Can you switch to a different brand? Is there someone who can run to the store and bring you some?

I was to get out last night and get some and DH picked some up on his way home from work, but you have to get the liquid so it's more $ than the powder which sucks.  Like I replied above to Jaye, I really don't want to switch her formula right now since she's been doing so good on it.  If Similac doesn't get their act together by the time I run out of the new stash that I bought last night, I guess I'll have to switch.

Sorry I didn't see all the replies before I respond.  I was heading up to the Neshaminy Mall today to do some shopping, so I figured if you were stranded, I could help.  Glad to hear you got what you needed!
