TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Anyone watch "How I Met Your Mother"?

Okay, so I didn't want to post this yesterday since we had so much good news (Lindsay's BFP & Kona's IVF...hooray!) & I didn't want to be a Debbie Downer.

Well, did any of you watch the season premiere of HIMYM?  And does anyone else want Lily & Marshall to have a m/c, or is it just my old bitter self?

I LOOOOVE this show, & I really like all of the characters.  Especially Lily & Marshall!  BUT.  Couple decides to have baby & has big romantic first time baby sex...I think I'd vomit puppies & rainbows if they get KU & have a storybook ending.  Yeah, maybe that IS reality for some very lucky people.  But it doesn't happen in my world.  And I want to see some of MY reality.

I'm really not that angry/bitter over this.  Just feel like it's waaay too saccharine & unrealistic.  But please feel free to give me some perspective that I'm getting annoyed by fictional characters & their fictional reproductive lives.  ;)

P.S.  Anyone else have thoughts on whose wedding they're attending?  My bet's on Robin & Barney.  :)

  • I didn't see the episode but heard a bit about it.

I'm with you, though. It sounds so totally sick in the head but I'm glad Meredith has a mc on greys... although that's three pregnancies and two miscarriages so maybe they're being a bit bonus dramatic.

I wanted Pam (The Office) to have a miscarriage, too.

And yeah... it probably means we're a little sick in the head...

  • I didn't think about the m/c thing, but I do hope that they are going to have a real struggle/IF issues. The scene where she talks about letting him down if she can't have kids made me cry, but I liked that they acknowledged that it might take a while or might not happen. I hope they stick to that instead of "tehe, all our fears about this being hard were unfounded!" KWIM?
  • I love How I met your mother but I thought the episode was painful to watch - as are alot of shows lately.

I am also hoping it was Barney and Robin's wedding!

  • I have never watched this show.  Should I?

This and The Big Bang Theory are awesome sauce! Although maybe it's best to wait an episode or so to see if the writers get all FHish...

Yes!  I also thought it was great that they touched on this, & I guess I'd settle for it just taking them awhile to get KU.  ;)  Thank you, ladies, for making me feel like less of a freak.

Kona:  This show is HYSTERICAL.  The first few seasons are on DVD now, if you have Netflix or something (heck, you could probably find them online for free).  I'd definitely recommend it...but two of the main characters have just started to TTC, so that's a warning for where the show is right now.

I have to admit that at the end of last season when they said they were going to TTC, I did roll my eyes and figured this season would open with a BFP followed by a perfect pregnancy. I made me vomit in my mouth a bit just anticipating it.

I really hope that they delve deeper into the IF struggles (beyond the ZOMG we've been trying for two months!). Not too many sitcoms go that route, and instead opt for the FH route.

And let's face it...IF is pure comedic gold. What's not funny about having a camera shoved up your hoo, DH wanking off in a dr office and getting your DH is give you shots in the a$$?

    BFP #4 via the natural (free!) way ~ E (8lb 11oz) 9/13/12

  • I completely stopped watching The Office when Pam got pregnant. I called it right away. As soon as they said she needs an xray, I said to my husband, "she won't be able to get it. She's pregnant. Watch." Bingo.

Does anyone watch Rules of Engagement with David Spade and "Putty" from Seinfeld? The main couple on that show are going through IF and doing IVF. They go through all of it, the shots, etc.

  • Yes!  We totally watch "Rules of Engagement", too!  (I think DH likes it even more than I do...but I think it's impossible for a man to NOT like Patrick Warburton!)  I really appreciate that they're going through IF problems...but they're just so dang chipper about it.  Guess it wouldn't be much of a comedy if they weren't, huh?  ;)  Another good show.

I love Rules of Engagement, I love that they show the struggles they are going through with IF.

  • I like HIMYM, but I've been holding off on watching this season. I really, really, really want M&L to suffer from IF or difficulties. I just want to be able to relate to them, which sounds so pathetic.

I always respected Friends for giving Monica and Chandler IF and for telling a fairly realistic T-TTC story (the adoption wasn't realistic, but it was the final season so that had to wrap things up quickly). I wonder if one of the writers had IF herself? And I was so glad they didn't make Monica pregnant after they adopted. But did they ever explore the jealousy she must have experienced over FH Rachel and her baby?
