I went home for lunch and found a stay Yorkie setting in my fount yard. There was a woman standing on the sidewalk so I just assumed that he was hers. As I was walking up the stairs she was like excuse me, Is this your dog? I said that it wasn't. She had been trying for an hour to find the dog?s owner. I got out my crate and got the dog in it. The poor thing is covered in fleas. The fleas are so bad that he is losing his hair. I just feel awful for this poor dog. He is setting in the crate in in my covered back porch/sunroom area. I ran to the vet to get some flea medication because I cannot have Paisley getting fleas. I called the humane society and they cannot take him until Monday. I feel awful for the little guy. I do not want him to end up back with his owners.
Re: Found a Stray Dog
I would be lying if I said I wouldn't be tempted to clean him up, take him to the vet and make him my new furbaby if I were in your shoes.
Is there anyway you can find out if he has a microchip? Maybe put an add in the paper?
Good luck!

You're such a good person!!!
Sounds like you're doing the right thing. Yay for flea preventatives!!!
The shelter or any vet SHOULD have instruments to check for microchips...& they'd do that before letting you keep him or turn him in. It could be that he's been lost for a little while & has flea allergies, so it doesn't necessarily mean that his previous home neglected him. But I know how it feels to get protective over these poor, little, helpless guys. (I found a Yorkie in my neighborhood within the past year & brought her to the shelter...they were able to reunite her with her family!)
Thank you for being such a great caretaker, & I hope everything works out for the best!!!
Oh, poor puppy! I agree with getting some flea meds and maybe seeing if your vet can check for the microchip. And why can't the humane society take him until Monday? That seems stupid on their part....
Good luck!
Update:
My Dh just got home and took him out of the crate. He could not even walk straight. I just got off the phone with the vet. They think that he might be anemic. I have to get him some iron vit. and watch him until tomorrow. If he is still having issues than it will be off to the vet. My DH does not want a boy dog, but if I put a lot of time and effort into this dog I know that I will get attached.

Are his gums pale?
He may very well be anemic because of the fleas, but BE VERY CAREFUL. With ANY dog/cat of unknown history who's acting neurological you HAVE TO keep rabies in the back of your mind. DO NOT LET HIM BITE YOU & WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER EVERY TIME YOU TOUCH HIM! This is just for super precaution, but because rabies is 100% fatal (okay, one girl lived once with severe brain damage, but still) you don't screw around with it.
Another possibility is that he has some other medical condition, which could be part of the reason why he became a stray in the first place.
I hope it is just anemia from the fleas & that the little guy feels better soon! But PLEEEEASE be careful!!!
