Car Minder- device that reminds you that your child is car

So this is what is keeping me up at night.  Maybe ridiculous, maybe irrational but that is pregnancy.

I have this fear that I am going to be SO exhausted that I might accidently leave my child in the car.

I have been looking around and this is what I found...

Has anyone heard of any other devices? Am I completely alone in this bit of insanity?

  • Being a new mom i understand how you are worrying about everything - but also being a new mom I can't understand how anyone can forget their baby is in the car - you see them in the mirror, you are thinking about them, hearing them, etc...

if you are worried about leaving LO in the car, they say to put something in the backseat that you have to get, like your purse/wallet, so then when you go into the back to get it, you will see LO.

  • Thanks! You know what? I think I am just so tired right now that I can't remember my own name so when I hear crazy stories on the news I get a little nutty.  But you are probably correct.

By the way I voted for your LO in the hilarious picture contest earlier. She is a cutie!

  • I've also heard of keeping a stuffed animal in the carseat when LO isn't in it, then moving it to the front seat when they're in the car.

I too can't imagine ever forgetting my child in the car...but I'm sure the people who have done it never imagined they would either. I forgot my dog in the car once when I was in high school. I'd gone to a friend's house & meant to run in for a minute, then 30 minutes later had the horrifying realization that the dog (a chow, so very furry) was in the car. I ran out there pretty much hysterical & luckily she was fine. (It wasn't in the summer, but still warm enough that I freaked out when I remembered she was out there.) Anyway...it was a dog & that's totally different...not constantly on your mind like your child is, but still.

It's a normal fear, but I'm sure you'll be fine without a device. Just do the stuffed animal thing, or like pp said, put your purse in the backseat if it makes you feel better.

  • the article that won the pulitzer for journalism this year was about accidental child deaths from hyperthermia in cars. it was gut-wrenching.

like others have posted: one of the suggestions in the article was to start keeping your purse, lunch, briefcase whatever in the backseat floorboard. that way, you'll always have to open the backseat to retrieve something.
