Travel question, sleeping arrangments dilemma

Background: DS#2 usually sleeps in the pnp bassinet in our room.  Our bed is too small (antique 3/4 size bed) to allow for safe co-sleeping and too high for me to be comfortable side-caring anything.  He is not the best sleeper at night, and sometimes wants to nurse non-stop.  On those nights, DH sleeps on the couch and DS sleeps with me so we can all get some sleep.

We are planning a weekend trip in early October and I'm trying to figure out sleeping arrangements.  DS#1 still sleeps in his crib and I'm not comfortable with him being on the loose in a hotel room, so he will probably sleep in our pnp.  What to do with DS#2, though?  If the hotel room bed is large enough (and not just two twin beds pushed together), we could have him sleep with DH and I.  I would appreciate any advice on how to do this safely - and any good alternatives you can suggest!

If the hotel has another pnp, we'd just put DS#1 in that and DS#2 in ours, but I have no idea where we're staying and no firm itinerary yet, so...need to be prepared for anything!

  • If I were you, I'd get either a Queen/King or request a second PnP. You could also look into getting a peapod to take in addition to the pnp - it folds down super small for what it is and is really easy to set up and then creates a safe sleep environment for the LO.

  • if the hotel doesn`t have a second p&p, or you decide you`d really like a crib and a p&p, try a baby-stuff rental company. almost every state has at least one; you can google crib rental or car seat rental and find them. the prices are really reasonable, and you can even rent stuff that`s a pita to travel with, like a boppy. we used one in michigan recently and the stuff was nice and clean, and she delivered. have fun! :)
  • Since DS was born we always just request a king sized bed when we stay in a hotel.  That way your other ds can have the pnp.
  • We just travelled and stayed in several different hotels. I liked the room with two queen size beds the best, that way DH slept in one bed and DD and I in the other. Make sure you take out all their oversized pillows and just allow one for yourself and a light cover (take off their big quilts). When DD was your DS's age we had a bassinet (still have it, but she is too big for it), which was perfect for overnight sleeps, we could even put the bassinet on the bed for naps. Do you have that?

  • We bought the fisher price infant to toddler rocker so we wouldn't have to take the pnp with us everywhere.  It has a bassinet setting, and we just have DD sleep in it.  This was she has a little chair as well, since she absolutely loves the toy bar in it.  It's helpful when we take showers, and want to set her down.
