so its not great news - the results are inconclusive at this point and the surgeon said whenever that happens that means he is def removing at least part of my thyroid. if it comes back cancerous they are removing the whole thyroid. they have sent my cells to stanford for additional pathologists to read and will know more results in the next few days.
i am scheduled for surgery next friday, oct 1st at 9:30 AM so would really appreciate your continued prayers and good thoughts. thanks so much ladies
Re: update from biopsy
br
Lots of dust, positive thoughts and good vibes.
If it helps at all....my cousin had the same result from the same test and the same surgery. They actually did the surgery at Stanford and tested it there too. Everything came back fine....she's ok and although she's on thyroid meds (which sucks) it wasn't cancer.
It'll all be ok.
hang in there!
I suspect that's a normal result for a thyroid biopsy. I had three needle aspirations and all three were "inconclusive". So they removed 2/3 of it and the rest of it died naturally.
I'll be thinking of you next Friday. (((hugs)))
ETA: On the plus side (if there is one), I was told that thyroid cancers usually move very slowly so even if the cells do come back positive, there's virtually no chance that it will have spread anywhere else.

oh man, I am sorry the tests were inconclusive. Sending tons of good thoughts and prayers for you.
If you need anything, please let me know. I live in the SB and I would gladly help out in anyway I can.

Echoing everyone else's good thoughts for you. Obviously I hope it is NOT cancer, but I was going to say the same thing as Tilden, that even if the biopsy does come back showing cancer, it is very likely that they'll be able to remove all of the cancer cells due because they stay really encapsulated within the thyroid and don't tend to spread. I've actually heard that thyroid cancer is the easiest kind to treat and has the best prognosis going forward.
My mom had thyroid cancer at 32. It was discovered while she was pg with my younger sister and she had to wait several months to undergo the surgery to remove the thyroid due to the baby. I was 3 at the time and I can remember visiting her in the hospital, and how when she came home she had staples on her neck that looked like a zipper, lol. She has NEVER had a recurrence or any other complications, and she's still very healthy at almost 63. She has taken Synthroid every day since then, which has not been a problem at for her, and she's the type that tends to hate medication of any kind. I also have a friend who had to have her thyroid removed last year due to cancer and is now doing very well, I'd be happy to put you in touch with her if you'd like. She kept a blog about her experiences too. Please let me know if you'd like the link to that as well - zoetcwright at gmail.
Sending T&P's your way!
I actually came over here just to see if you'd posted any news as I am going through the same thing right now (although I haven't had a biopsy yet, just an ultrasound).
