Is it rude to invite acquaintances to the baby shower?

Generally, shower guests should be family and close friends.

If I don't see and/or talk to them on a regular basis I didn't invite them to my shower.

I had an acquaintance invite me to her shower..we're not really friends - Her husband was friends with my ex boyfriend (who I broke up with about 8 years ago btw) but we all lived in the same area and would run into eachother now and then at mutual friends houses or just around town. Anyway I felt obligated, and felt very awkward and out of place at her shower (thank god one of my good friends was also invited to keep me sane).

When I have to give a list to my sister for my shower, I won't be including acquaintances that I don't see regularly because I don't want anyone to feel the way I did.

What about coworkers? I am definitely close to one girl at the office and acquaintances with 2 others. I don't want them to feel left out if I don't invite them. It's a small office.

I didn't invite coworkers because my work will likely host a shower for us at some point as well (we work together). I had one coworker who requested an invite to the friends/family shower, so I did invite her, though.
