FF 3/4 month olds- how much, how often

DS only takes 4 oz (sometimes he doesn't even finish the bottle) but he eats every 2-2.5 hours.  I would love for him to eat a little more and make it more like 3 hours or so.  He's right on track weight wise so I'm not concerned about it, but it would be nice to spread out the feedings a little.  How much and how often is your LO eating?

Re: FF 3/4 month olds- how much, how often

  • My LO is like this too. She is just now starting to go 3 hrs between feedings, but it's still usually 2- 2 1/2 hrs. I fix a 5oz bottle first feeding in the morning which she always finishes. All other bottles I fix 4 oz and sometimes she finishes them and sometimes only eats half.

My LO has mild reflux which I was told could be the cause. Pedi says it's fine as long as she is getting enough to eat total and gaining weight. She's always been little (25%) but is gaining on the right curve.

  • I BF so I don't know how many ounces, but DD has 5 or 6 feedings a day depending on when she wakes up. So, if I went by the weight calculation they use of 2.5 x weight divided by the number of feedings, she should be taking around 6 ounces per bottle.  When I do give her a bottle, I put 6 ounces in, and if she takes it all great, but if not I know she will make up for it some other time. She eats every 3 or 4 hours during the day.

  • Baby A drinks 6 oz every 2.5 hrs (he gets about 40oz per day!).  Baby B drinks anywhere from 3 to 5.5 oz at the same interval.

  • DD eats 5oz every 5-5 1/2 hours. She was eating 4oz every 2-3 hours and the 1 oz really made all the difference!
  • 6 oz every three hours!!! Plus we have started him on cereal and a few tsp of fruit or veggies 3 times a day.
