Re: Anyone going to BabyBrunch this Sunday at Finale?
Private cord blood banking is a waste of money. Autologous blood is almost never useful. Unless you have an older child with a known genetic problem that could be treated by a cord blood transplant, DONATE your cord blood so that there will be units available for everyone who needs it and save your money for things your baby will actually need. Or just spend it on dessert.
Donation rather than private banking is recommended by the AMA, the AAP, and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Few physicians support private banking:

"In addition, few [transplant doctors] would recommend banking of cord blood in families without a member known to have, or be at risk for, a disease that can be treated by transplantation."
