2nd Trimester

Vent: Don't read if you get offended easily! It's not my intention to offend!

Ok I am a first time expectant mama, I am young 25 years old married to a wonderful man for 2 years now. I know that people want to give me pregnanc and baby advice and I am totally open to hearing it because I know I am new to this. I know that I can take some and use it and leave some BUT I have to say I cannot STAND it when people tell me ridiculous facts that scare the crap out of me! Someone told me while I was enjoying my half cup of coffee (Which I only have one half a day IF that) that I should NOT be drinking coffee at ALL because my baby will be born like a crack baby! Are you f'ing kidding me! I know some doctors say no caffeen others say in moderation, my doctor didn't give me ANY restrictions so I made my own based on what other people do, I am 15 weeks and so far everything is going well. I don't eat raw fish but I will have a dynamite roll, or a veggie roll even though I have been told not to since they might cute it with the same knife they use for the raw fish. I love my baby with all my heart and soul already and want the BEST for it, but I am not going to give up every food I like just because something "MIGHT" happen. Hopefully things will still be alright but in the meantime I am going to stop worrying and eat my quiznos in peace :P

Re: Vent: Don't read if you get offended easily! It's not my intention to offend!

  • Wow, I would have FREAKED out! I figure.... women were doing stuff and eating anything they wanted LOOONG before doctors were putting "rules" on your pregnancy.... I will take in the advice of my doctor, but it doesnt mean i am going to do it! I will make my own decisions on what I think is best for me and my baby.

  • People can be stupid. If you have researched what choices you're making, it's a lot easier to explain to people why what they're saying is ridiculous. Or to just nod politely and take note that the person in question is an idiot.

  • Yep, crack baby with 2 heads because you drink coffee, eat sushi and cold cuts. So irresponsible.

  • Unfortunately, people seem to lose their filter when it comes to pregnant woman.  They think they can tell us what we can do and can't do.  Just ignore the morons, because there is a lot of them out there.

I agree! Not offended at all. Haha! :) You are being too nice in your vent. VENT HARDER next time! :) hehe!

But really... You have every right to get upset now and then. Especially when people talk "at" you with their advice.

  • Haha I just thought I would put that as a sensor because I have gotten some flack from some super overprotective new mamas in the past about my posts. Who knows maybe someone on here thinks coffee will make baby a crack addict too! totally stupid!

Haaha! What? Hyfagal! Stop it! haha! You make me pee a little way too much.

  • people are insane and alarmist.  do what you feel comfortable doing.

i'm completely (as my OB/midwifey peeps are) eating avocado eel rolls and feta and goat cheese and drinking a cup of coffee a day and in the 3rd tri having a half glass of wine (zomg, alert cps).

you know what?  my daugher was not born a caffeine addicted FAS baby with 3 heads.  shocking, i know!  we narrowly escaped :eye roll:.

  • I love coffee. but i've never "needed" a morning coffee. its always been like... hmmmmm coffee sounds sooooo good today.

then i conceived a child. and suddenly my ability to wake up. and stay awake is significantly impaired.

that being said. i have transitioned into a serious coffee addict. i should be going to classes. its bad.

i'm all pro natural pregnancy for sure... but i gotta say. if it keeps my sanity. i'm sorry baby... you don't want a crazy mama.

Haha! No worries! If you worry too much during pregnancy your baby will be addicted to drama!!!!

    Fo sho! Hehe!

  • I don't get why that would be an offensive post, but anyway, you really can't worry about what others say you should and should not do during your pregnancy. You're going to find tons of different opinions about what you should or shouldn't do, and what people did and not do during their own pregnancy. You have to do whatever you are comfortable with. And like PP said, it's not over after the child is born! So many people(mothers or not) are going to be giving you "advise". You gotta do what you feel is best!

  • I keep trying to tell myself that when I get unneeded or somtimes just plain wrong advice like this, it is just people doing what they think is helpful, and they aren't intentionally being nosy or insensitive. It's getting really hard to do that lately though. Confused

  • I miss my vanilla latte!!!! I would have it but it makes me THROW UP! :(
  • You would love the 4 page (yes 4 pages I printed it to double check) email that I got from my BIL.

Everyone has two things, and a$$hole and an opinion.  When you get pregnant (and later raising the child) people seem to combine the two.  Take it with a grain of salt, yell at them in your head (this is where I do my best yelling), and move on.

This is very true, the way I see it is, I need my coffee in the afternoon to keep me awake at work so I can make money to spend on the baby, and If I am craving quiznos and dynamite rolls it's better to eat that then nothing at all because nothing is appealing to me.

  • 1. This whole thread is making me LOL.

    2. No faster way to get me to read a thread than by prefacing it with 'don't read if you get offended...'

    3. What I love about this site and its boards is that the women are supportive of one another. I come here to learn, laugh, and share. If I want to hear about how midwives have no training and will kill my baby (my latest episode of unsolicited advice), I have plenty of 'off-line' friends who will fill that need.

    4. What is it about the filter on people that evaporates at the mere mention of pregnancy? Is it the same affliction that involuntarily causes their hand to touch my belly (had my first incident with this just yesterday)?

  • Some people are just RIDICULES with their pregnancy myths.... I've heard all kinds of things...

"Your feet are swollen, you are going to have a water delivery" I'm like, What?? "Oh yeah, when you deliver your baby, its not going to be a dry delivery, its going to be a delivery with lots of water coming out of you" WTFFFFF Angry

Then: " Your stomach is round, oh Its gonna be a boy...." then someone else says "your belly is round, its gonna be a girl"

And that is just part of what I've heard from people.... it makes me really mad I dont want to hear stupidity or myths I dont care....

Then my mother told me a while ago that if I didn't take long walks, the baby will get "glued" to my uterus................................. C'MON

If your posts are too long/wordy, your baby will be born with cat's paws for hands. It's just a fact.

I'm in trouble! LOL! I always write long posts!

    This exactly!

I also read that stress mixed with coffee can cause the baby to be born with two mouths.

    You better calm down girlfriend!

  • I think I'll just ask people if they drive a car...I hear they're dangerous.  Really not looking forward to all of the unsolicited advice.

On that note, I do believe I'll have sushi for dinner tonight.

    LOL hahaha love it

And ya, I am sure alot of the people that are all preachy are old women who did alot worse in their pregnancy, or men who should really protect their ball sac when giving pregnant woman "advice".

  • This is why when I get lectured to not eat something, I smile and reply, "But my doctor told me to eat this 3x a week." With coffee, I tell them I need to make my kids shorter. (One of my BFF's in middle school was convinced she was so short because her parents gave her coffee milk in a bottle as a child. And here I thought it was all genetics! Silly me!)

  • The way we Americans make coffee even black it is safe to have a cup. I take mine with milk and sugar so by the time all is said and done I have a half cup of actually coffee and my DD drinks half of that on me so I am down to a quarter. I had my U/S yesterday. The baby has only one alien head ..... so far. I do love my lunchmeat so you never know it may still sprout that sister head.

  • I work in cubicle-land with several hundred women and hear the same things everyday!  Didn't stop me from getting a regular ham and turkey at quiznos with a caffeinated pop for lunch! the satisfying feeling drowned out all the crazies...at least for my lunch hour lol
