Babies: 0 - 3 Months

do you still log diapers/feedings?

We were on a great routine of keeping a log of their dirty/wet diapers and feedings, but I slowly forgot here and there until I just don't do it at all anymore. I feel like I should, but they are on a pretty good schedule, so it's easy to remember and I know they have more than enough diapers. I'm curious how many people actually still log this and if there really is a benefit to doing it still?

  • I stopped after a month.  I think the only benefit at this point would be peace of mind, but since he's wet every time I check, which is frequent, I'm pretty sure we're fine :-)

  • I stopped after a couple weeks - she was having PLENTY of wet diapers, so I didn't bother actually counting them.

I do keep count the day before her doctor appointments, because they always ask me and I don't want to seem like I don't know what's going on Smile

As long as you're confident that they're both having enough (I would have trouble keeping track of both babies Smile) I wouldn't worry too much if you loose count.

  • we stopped at probably a month. It was too time consuming and I have an idea of what is going on. The only reason it would be great to still be doing it, is when DH or someone else is watching them so that I know what happened when I wasnt around.

  • I have an app on my phone (Baby ESP, droid network) and I keep it all in there. It's a great ref! I can also log when I gave him meds and set an alarm to remind me when it's time for him to have more.

He wants to eat so much, so often that I use it to be sure he's waiting 2hrs between feedings.

  • I log feedings now only. I used to log both. I like to keep up with when he eats and which bottles have expressed milk and which ones dont

This. Only ones I really keep count of is the poopy diapers. Every time I look at J he has a wet diaper, its the dirty ones I really look for.

  • eeekkkk i never did log, not even in the hospital.
  • I have an app on my phone that I use to log feedings and diapers.
  • I logged for a month with wets/drys.  After a month, we logged awake/sleeping to help us figure out her routine.  At 7-8 weeks, we stopped logging all together because we knew her routine and got much better at reading her.

  • I stopped after about 2-3 weeks when I was sure that the BF was going well.  I am going to start logging feedings again some time soon so that I can try to figure out a little bit of a schedule for her so we can get out the door and to daycare when I go back to work in three weeks.
  • I just started doing it last week to keep track of FF Vs. BM.  But that lasted a whole day and that was it.  I kept forgetting to write it down.  So now I just keep a mentally note.

  • We still log feedings and also jot down nap times. At this point we can spot trends, especially in nap times. We also can track about how many ounces he's taking in (we FF).  I don't know - maybe we are just doing it out of habit now. His habits/patterns are always changing though so it is helpful to predict how our days will be.

  • Yes I log everything diapers, feedings, and sleep schedule. Iit's good to know how often she does a poop and what time she fell asleep and woke up.

  • DS is three weeks today and we just forgot to write it down the past few days.  I am totally OCD so I am going to pick it back up today, I just really like knowing how long it has been between feedings and DS doesn't have consistent dirty diapers.
  • I did it for about 5-6 weeks.  I started forgetting here and there and then finally just stopped.  I am frequently changing her and would notice a difference if she stopped urinating or pooping.  I would've liked to keep up with it but there are so many other things to do in a day!
  • I do, for a couple of reasons. I admit it, I'm type A, but also because Morgan's weight is watched very closely by her doc (we go in weekly...she was only 4lbs, 9oz at birth and as of today weights 6lbs, 14oz), so I want to make sure that we're feeding her enough daily.

By tracking her food intake I've been able to insure she gets most of her calories during the day, and I have found this helps her to sleep better at night. I also think that by keeping track of her daily routine, it will be helpful for our nanny once she starts (like I said, I'm type A).
