When to drop a night feeding?

DD has been eating every two hours, day and night, since she was born. Now that she's five months old, I'm starting to think about dropping at least one night feeding. But, I know she's teething, so I don't want to stress her out either. Should I wait until 6/7 months when she starts some solids or would it be okay to try to do a four hour stretch now? I'm soooo tired, but could probably survive another month or so. Crying

  • I don't intend on dropping a feeding until he stops waking up hungry.  You could try to soothe her some other way besides nursing and if she goes back to sleep then she's probably not that hungry.  But I just find it easier to go ahead and nurse b/c it puts him straight to sleep.

  • Great question and I'll be looking forward to the responses as I was going to post a similar question. DD wakes up 2-3 times a night and most of the time is hungry. I always try to soothe her using other methods and sometimes DH will go in to try but if she's really fussing and rooting for food we feed her. I wondered at what point does that become a problem - more of a habit than actual hunger?

Otherwise DD does great! She's learned to put herself to sleep and as an example last night after her 4AM feeding she wasn't ready to sleep so I put her in her crib and she played for about 20 minutes and then rolled over onto her belly and fell asleep.
