At-Home Business ideas for moms?

Hi girls- I'm thinking of TTC soon but always dreamt of being a stay at home mom once I had a baby. I'm pretty entrepreneurial at heart and would love to start an at-home business so that I can stay home with my baby but also make some money on the side. I am creative, some background in graphic design, and currently do marketing. Does anyone have ideas for some at-home businesses? Has anyone tried this and how did it work for you?

Thanks!

  • This is technically my first post as I'm still lurking and haven't got the guts to reply or post, until now. But I'm already a stay at home woman and we are still discussing TTC but I'm getting into making jewelry. Here in Texas everyone is digging the big, chunky, funky necklaces and bracelets and they are incredibly easy to make. There are books all over the place about necklace making basics and basic tool sets. You can find all sorts of awesome glass and wood beads. Turquoise and huge pink rocks are really in, too. The more colorful and outrageous, the better! And the best part is that they can sell anywhere from $40 to $200 a piece depending on the style, coloring, kinds of beads and rocks involved as well as length.

I also know a couple of ladies in my area that make cute t-shirts for the local area school for football games and the such and those range from $15 to $30 a shirt using plain haine's tshirts and contrasting fabric in all sorts of fun prints they cut into letters/numbers and ironed on. Some I've seen have fabric paint splatters, rhinestones, and even artfully done bleaching techniques with just a spray bottle.

The possibilities are endless with a creative mind!

    Hope this helps :)

  • I'm hoping to do the same, but honestly, it's incredibly hard to stay at home with a baby and try to get any work done.  My DS isn't a great napper, and is all over the place (he started rolling over at 2 months and hasn't stopped moving since), so I can't  get anything done during the day, and I need the down time after he goes to bed at night.  To me, it's much easier now that I am back in the office full time.  I was working from home three days a week and I ended up staying up till 1 or 2 a.m. getting work done.  Still, once he's older, I'm hoping to stay home and have something that I can do while he's at school.

As far as ideas, go on esty and get some ideas of what you can do.  if you have graphic design skills you can do stationery, mommy cards, invitations, blog designs, etc.  Or you can set up your own marketing business, since that's what you do now.

    Good luck!
