Traveling HTF Wraps

Would you pay to join a group of traveling HTF wraps? If so, how much? The group would include wraps like Pamir, Yew, Pfau, Sonne Rot, Zink, and the latest Sunset, among others.

Re: Traveling HTF Wraps

  • Nope.  I wouldn't.  Sunset is already going traveling.  For free.  IMO if you can't deal with the idea that something may happen to your wrap you don't send it traveling.  And most traveling groups have restrictions on who can join, number of posts, positive feedback, "known" TBW member, etc.  IIRC you had asked about starting a lending library/rental program as a business option a few days ago?  If this is part of that I can sort of see the idea but then again I'm not sure who the demographic would be.  Seems like rental carriers are generally targeted at momma's who are new to babywearing in general but those are some heavy hitters you have listed up there and some aren't even available at retail at all so why pay to try something you can never own?

my disclosure: I've got a couple of those wraps listed above and am on the traveling sunset list.

  • No, because if I remember right (and I might be wrong) but doesn't everyone who participates in traveling wrap groups send a wrap to travel?

I'd be willing to pay a small fee if I were to be part of a traveling circle and didn't have a wrap to contribute but I'm not sure how much I'd be willing to pay.

I'd be willing to pay a small fee to try out some wraps as I'm a newb and want to figure out what I like best before buying. But I also don't have anything to contribute. Not sure I'd want to pay all that much though - maybe shipping both ways plus something fairly nominal to cover wear and tear (not really an issue with wraps though to my understanding) and cleaning fees... Certainly no more than $10...

Shipping alone can be more than $10.  I'm constantly surprised how much I pay for shipping.

Really? Wow. I generally use flat rate boxes from USPS and they are fairly reasonable if I recall.

Total threadjack but ya, I can rarely get anything in a small flat rate box.  Every once and a while a medium.  Of course I'm talking about sending size 5-7 wraps.  I've gotten shorties in Tyvek bags before and they've run between 5 and 7 bucks.  I also may just be a shipping failure.  Seriously, might be user error ;)

  • We have a lending library for our babywearing group.  It's a large group (metro Chicago) about 50+members.  We charge $15 annually for members to rent from our lending library.  This cost goes to pay for our liability insurance.   Before we had the insurance our library was free.

I look at it as I love sharing the babywearing love. I just sent out a wrap to a mama for the heck of it, because she had been talking about wanting to buy a certain wrap.  I offered to mail mine out to her to try for a week or two.  I didn't ask for any money, and didn't expect anything in return.  I just love the certain wrap and figured I would spread the love.

I understand that you're looking to do this for HTF wraps, but I guess I'm not big on those. Alot of HTF wraps are only because of the hype involved around them.  For instance pfau is one of those, I don't find that it has amazing wrap qualities at all.  I tried one in Chicago at a City Slingers meeting (they have one in their lending library)   Like pp said, if I'm going to try something..it's because I'm hoping I'd be able to find one to buy honestly.

  • I was asking, because someone asked me if I wanted to pay to join a group like this. I wasn't thinking about charging for one. I agree it is pointless to pay for something you could never own.

The lending would be for ETF wraps that were available for purchase if you wanted to purchase it, and of course the lending fee would be taken off the cost of the wrap.

I love the idea of doing it for ETF ones, especially if they can purchase that exact wrap from you if they fall in love.  Especially since there's wraps that I would love to try, but just don't want to put all the pp into buying it and then have to deal with selling it if I don't like.

Just out of curiosity, did they give you a price point on what they were charging?

Now this I would pay for.  Is it a local thing or nationwide?

  • Granola Babies does a rental - https://www.granolababies.com/rent-a-sling/cat_73.html - it's limited right now but you can always PM Giselle through TBW and ask about a different wrap or when one might be available.
