Update on Tummy Pain/Stupid DH

Well, DH FINALLY picked up his cell phone and came home from work... after some persuasion from me that I needed to go. (? Don't know why he's being so dumb these days)  I got to the ER and it was jam packed with people, so we checked in and waited our turn.  After an hour of talking to another pregnant lady, they finally called my name.  They were thinking it was my gull bladder so they ran bloodwork, this was the first time having someone take my blood hurt.  She jammed the needle in there so hard!  We waited for 2 hours before the bloodwork came back.. and the doctor said everything was fine and it was just heartburn.  Excuse me, doctor.  I've had heartburn before and this is NOT it!  I've never had heartburn that felt like someone was shoving a knife into my upper stomach!

So they gave me some Pepcid and a GI cocktail... <- Yuck.. and sent me on my way after another hour of waiting for discharge papers.  Needless to say, I was not happy with my experience, and I'm going to see my regular GP asap!

  • I'm glad you got to see somebody!  Hopefully you'll get a better answer with a specialist.  Although I must say that your organs shift around and everything feels differerent.  I'm guessing if it was heartburn, then the emotions you were dealing with just made it worse.  Hope you get some R&R!

  • It might be round ligament pain. I know you're just at 12wks but I started to feel it that early. It felt like a pulling/stabbing pain going up and down my abdomen. It's now moved to the right side. Would hurt especially if I were laying down and had to change positions. Good luck finding out what it is and hope you feel better.
  • Sorry this is so long, but, hope it helps!

Where is the pain located? My gall bladder 'died' (only has 5% function now) when I was pregnant with my son. I would get a painful stabbing sensations under my rib cage on my right side and the spot under my right shoulder blade would hurt. After I had my son, that pain wnet away but I started having gall bladder attacks. I didn't know that's what to call them at the time, they were just severe fits of puking and diarhea that would not stop regardless of what OTC I would take, so each time this sent me to the ER for fluids and a cocktail of morphine, bentyl, phenergren, another I can't remember the name of, and benadryl 'to help with the side-effects of all the others.'

About a year after my son was born (almost 4.5 years ago), I talked to my GP and he sent me to a specialist who did bloodwork, an ultrasound of my gallbladder, and scopes (both directions, twice) but he said everything was normal and told me it was nothing but stress. I told him I thought he was wrong and I told my GP the same thing but they didn't seem to care, so I continued to suffer.

A month before I got my BFP, I was having symtoms more often, so I went back to my GP and he sent me to a new specialist. She did a ton more bloodwork (14 different tests) and a HIDA scan. The HIDA scan is finally what got me a diagnosis and I literally got the results of that the morning after I POAS and got my BFP. At that point the docs refused to operate because I'm pregnant. They put me on a extreme low-fat diet (30 grams of fat or less a day...no cheese, no ground beef, no fast food, etc). I have lost 20 pounds since the diagnosis/BFP but I haven't had any more issues (I was overweight too, so losing that much wasn't a bad thing). My OB has been keeping close tabs on my weight and has done two ultrasounds already and LO is growing just fine, but my OB told me 3 weeks ago he expects me to start gaining weight now.

So, long story short, talk to your OB and find a GOOD GI specialist.

    Good luck!
