December 2010 Moms

What Goes In?

Ladies, you were all so great about encouraging me to pursue what's on my heart about helping preemies and their families and I cannot thank you enough for that! One of the ideas mentioned that we've decided to go with is the baskets. I shared my heart with a few friends, asking them to keep us in prayer (for Nolan and this new project) and they have all expressed interest in helping. This whole idea as caught on like wildfire in our community and I am getting emails and phone calls from people who quilt, sew, bake, EVERYTHING and want to offer their goods to a greater cause. I am so touched! They are all super excited to buy and wear the bracelets and I am just so overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

So, I'm wondering... what goes in the baskets? The very first thing I thought of was chapstick. I learned during my stay in the hospital that the air in those rooms ruin your lips. It's a small, silly thing but chapstick really did brighten my day. Here are the other things I've thought of thus far...

Items for baby:

Preemie outfit

Booties

Knitted beanies

Small quilts

Small blankets

Items for parents:

Chapstick

Tissues

Notebook and pens

Snacks

Letter of encouragement

What else?? TIA!!

Re: What Goes In?

  • Slippers for the mom?  My feet were freezing!
  • Loading the player...
  • And for the love of God, I thought you were going to say "Must come out" and tell us that Nolan was born--my heart skipped several beats!  How are you feeling??

Ah! Sorry! Haha - that would have been kind of funny.

I just finished reading a thread about how some ladies wish that people would be more descriptive in the post titles so that we know what is inside the post. Doh! If only I had read that 5 mins previous.

I'm feeling okay. Thanks for asking. It;s nice to have something bigger than me to focus on.

  • First, I think it's so amazing what you are doing to help others when you and your family are going through all of this.  Happy to hear things are still going well too!!  I don't have a "real" suggestion, but my suggestion is actually to post this on the preemie board as many of those moms are in the throes of NICU visits or shortly out of them.  Let us know what we can do to help as well!!

Amen, doing anything to help other people always makes me feel good that I'm helping others and makes me feel good about my own life Angel  I'm so happy to hear that you and Nolan are hanging in there and that you've found something else to focus on for a while!  Xo

    My exact thoughts lol.

You are doing such a great thing. I'm not sure though what else I would put in the baskets, but the slipper idea sounds pretty good too. I love slippers!!

  • This is a wonderful idea, KateySue!  You're going to make a difficult time easier for (too) many families.  One thing I thought of was a package of those moistened, disposable face wash cloths. They' might be good for when mom (or dad) needs a quick way to freshen up at the hospital.
