Trying to Get Pregnant

My boss' "fool-proof" TTC advice (long vent)...

So, I've worked in a pharmacy for over 4 years with the same male pharmacist. I have heard him tell countless women the same advice over the years about TTC and fertility. He tells them to have sex every 3rd day and they will get pregnant with in 2-3 months. "Fool proof" he says. Don't waste your money on OPK's.

Well, also over the years, we have had lots and lots of these women come back and thank him for the advice and that it worked! It never bothered me because I wasn't TTC at the time. So, now that I am TTC, I hear him tell these women this and I think in my head "if it were just that easy for me".

He doesn't know that I am TTC, but it's pretty obvious that I haven't picked up my b/c since March. He's not supposed to look in my profile for no reason, but I'm pretty sure he has to know (the other pharmacist I work with knows).

In the past week, there have seriously been 4 women who have come with PNV rx's or have just stopped by the pharmacy thanking him for his advice. There was one last week who went on and on about how it happened the first time they tried and they are so happy...One time, he came back behind the counter and said "did you hear that? another one! they're gonna have to start naming these kids after me....I told you it was fool proof". I really got the impression that he was trying to tell me in not so many words that I should be doing this.

Today we were training a new pharmacist and again, someone came in thanking him for his wonderful baby making advice...and he went on and on to the other pharmacist about how she should give the same advice.

It's so frustrating, I almost want to tell him that I am having a hard time listening to it, but I don't really want him to officially know I am TTC.

I guess I'm really looking forward to when I really am pregnant so I can tell him my struggles and we'll see what he says when I tell him I had a m/c in July/Aug on my freaking birthday!

Alright...vent over...thanks for listening!!! I'm glad I came here and can read everyone's stories so I know it's just not me who's not getting pregnant on my first month!

  • I think I can imagine how you feel having to put up with that all day.

He's a douche, by the way.

Think about all the women who took his advice and it didn't work.  I'll bet they don't come back to tell him he's full of balogna!  You just don't know about them, but I'm sure there are plenty.

Also, I'm not really sure a pharmacist is qualified to, or can legally, give conception advice?  Seems off to me.

Hang in there.  Here's a virtual hug for you Left Hug and a virtual elbow-to-the ribs for the douche!Angry

  • Yuck! That sucks.

Thanks! You made me lol and feel better...I never thought about all the women who DID come back to buy those OPK's when his advice didn't work after 2 months.

  • Hey... what pharmacy do u work in? I work for Walgreens and was just wondering if it was the same company.
  • That sounds super frustrating. I'm sorry :(

  • Wow, that sucks! I'm sorry you've had to deal with that day in and day out! I agree with FyreFry that there are probably a lot of ladies who didn't benefit from his advice. Hmm

  • I hope that soon you will be able to tell your boss that his advice doesn't work for everyone...sending baby dust your way!!  That would really suck having to listen to that all the time day in and day out.

  • Yeah, I like it for the most part. I mean it has its ups and downs just like any job but its not bad.  The pharmacy I work in has only been open  2 and 1/2 years so its not to busy we average about 130-140 a day.
  • aww so sorry you're having to deal w/ that over & over. Best of luck hon
