Hi ladies! I'm in the midst of stroller shopping (SO overwhelming), and I can't decide between getting a Snap-n-Go, then a Maclaren Quest when she's older OR just getting a Bee and the car seat adapter and being done with it.
My thought is that the stroller will be used for trips to the mall (so needs to be able to maneuver in stores) and for frequent good long walks on sidewalks and streets that may have slightly gravely surfaces (we go to the beach a lot) or in the city. So no "off roading" per se.
Does the Bee meet those needs? Does the weight bother you (for going in and out of the trunk) and how do you manage with the small basket?
TIA!!!
Re: Anyone own a Bugaboo Bee?
I had a Bee I just sold (I am upgrading to a Phil and Ted's double for my soon to be 2 children).
- I loved the Bee. It drove like a BMW. It was flipping amazing in stores and tight spaces. It folded compactly and the sunshade was awesome. The front/back options are great, althought the seat can be a PITA to flip around.
- basket is not large at all. Invest in some of the big Mommy hook carabiner things to hold bags.
- I didn't have the carseat adaptor but had I not fell in love with the Phil and Teds, I would have gotten it for DC #2.
- You may have an issue with some gravelly roads. The bee does not do well over sidewalk cracks and the like. Depending on how often you go on this type of slightly uneven surface, this may or may not bother you.
- that said, I LOVED my Bee. I paid $550 for it and was able to sell it in 4 days on Craigslist for $400. Bugaboos retain their value if you take care of them.
Thanks for your advice! How did it do on brick or cobblestone sidewalks? I don't go into town often, but I want to be able to use it when I do (we live near Boston). Of course, I'm not sure if the Mac Quest would be any better on that type of surface...
Also - did you mind not having a "window" in the sunshade? I'm not sure if I'm going to feel the urge to peek in on LO once she's facing front in the seat.
I'm actually looking on Craigslist for used ones right now - they seem to be going for between $400 and $500 - so I'm excited to know that I could sell it if I need to upgrade to a double stroller in the future.
Truthfully it sucked on cobblestone I'm afraid. We took it two times in an area in Baltimore near the waterfront/harbor with mostly cobblestone streets and we practically had to make a beeline dash across the street because had we had gone slow we would have been stuck between every cobblestone with a slight gap between the morter/grout. The Bee only has a single tire for each wheel. The maclarens have two tires per wheel (so literally 8 wheels if that makes sense). I think that sort of helps a bit - not much though.
I did not mind not having a window. If I wanted to look I peeked around or asked whoever was with me what my son was up to (if I wasn't alone). To me it was no big deal.
My advice would be to get a Bee and if you end up doing a lot of cobblestone walking look into a cheaper stroller with better off road/cobblestone friendly wheels.
You will get a ton of use out of the Bee. It broke my heart to sell it, but realistically I couldn't see holding onto a such an expensive stroller for only occasional use......
Thanks again! My trips to the city will be infrequent so I don't want to base my decision on that alone. I could always end up using a carrier when I go into town (as DH would probably be with me to help carry the diaper bag and stuff).
I think I'll keep looking for a used one and grab it if I find a good deal. Plus, they are SO cute :-)
