Infertility

A math/dosage question/challenge

Ok, so I am to take 2 mg of Delestrogen.

The label says:

5mL Multiple Dose

20 mg/mL

So, I calculate that to be 0.1 mL or 0.1 cc.  Does that seem right?  That is such a small dosage.

Re: A math/dosage question/challenge

  • I calculate 0.5 ml  because 2mg/20mg x 5mL.  0.1 is the ratio used to calculate how many mL.

  • See, I am so confused.  I was thinking the 5mL was the total volume in the vial.

    So, I did 2mg x ( 1mL/20 mg) = 0.1 mL

After my last cycle, I am double checking everything!

Plus, I am kind of nerdy that way!

  • Can you call the pharmacy or speak with your RE?  Maybe either one of them will be able to give you the correct dosage of the pills you were given, and how many you need to take to have the right dosage.  I'm actually surprised it doesn't say it on your perscription.

Hmmm, I would definitely check with someone at the RE's or pharmacy.

  • Ok I think I'm wrong, you're right.  If there's 20mg per mL than 0.1mL.

I take that label to mean that there's a total volume of 5mL in the vial and the concentration of it is 20 mg/mL for a total of 100 mg in the entire vial.

    So if you need to take a 2mg dosage, you would need a 0.1mL injection. (20mg / 1 ml = 2mg / X ml, solve for X)

It's been a long time though since I worked with Algebra so I wouldn't bet my life on it. ;-)

  • As a nurse, this is how I would calculate it:

    2 mg = dose ordered
    20 mg = dose available
    5 mL = volume available

dose ordered / dose available x volume available

    2mg
    20mg

    x 5mL

    Total: 0.5ml = 2mg

But I would definitely ask the nurse or pharmacist just to clarify!

That makes sense.  I definitely plan to ask my RE.  Thanks.
