When do you introduce finger foods?

I was reading on wholesomebabyfood.com and they said you can introduce finger foods between 7 and 8 months.  Did you start that early?  I am going to the store today and thought about getting some tofu and Cheerios but wasn't sure if it is still a little too early.  My boys are 7.5 months.

Thoughts/experiences?

  • We did purees only from 6 to 8 months then started with finger foods.  It only took a few weeks before he insisted on finger foods only, lol.

So, 8 months.  And he was more than ready.

I think your guys are plenty old enough and if they're not ready, you'll know.

  • Oh wow, I can't even remember. How sad is that? I think it was around 8 monthsish, and we started with puffs and cheerios. Tread carefully, because C decided that he liked finger foods so much that he wanted no more purees. That was fun.

  • We tried puffs somewhere between 7-8 months.  We didn't do cheerios until later since they don't dissolve as easily.
  • I think she was around 7 months when we started with puffs and other foods that dissolve very easily.  But like others said, she didn't want purees for much longer.  I used to put some puffs on her tray and shovel in some purees between her feeding herself.  I'm tricky like that!

  • I started about 8 months after starting solids(purees) at 6 months.
