I had Luke at 34 weeks, a week and 3 days ago! Hes been doing awesome! All we are waiting on for him to come home is to feed more and to grasp eating out of a bottle/breast better.
Well today when we went in to visit Luke the doctor walked by and said, "Luke is doing good. Get ready, Im going to say about 2 or 3 more days before you can bring him home."
WHAT! Im so happy to hear I can bring him home possibly so soon- but that means Ill be caring for such a tiny baby! Hes so precious and right now only weighs 3 lbs 14 oz!!! Im a new momma and just hope I get the hang of caring for such a little guy! Did anyone else get scared before they brought their preemie home?
Re: Kinda scared about good news!
I was scared when they told me that he was going to come home. I was just so used to the nurses taking care of him. I am glad that they let me room in with him the night before. And we also had taken an infant care class before he came home too. I will note that the first full day that he was home with me, he had 3 reflux episodes--I was not used to that so it scared me--I was the crazy mother calling the pediatrician before going into baby's first appointment. But I know how to work with it better now.
Also, if your baby grunts or makes sounds during the night, I would recommend the Homedics Sound Spa Lullaby Relaxation Machine. I also have the Sony CD alarm clock that I play lullabies on and the Conair Infant Sound Machine. It helped me to relax and get better sleep. I just felt better sleeping in the same room as my baby. And in the beginning, we used small flashlights to check on him during the night. It gets easier to anticipate his needs.

Thank you so much for your reassurance! I never thought about it but im sure the pediatrician will be fantastic. It is scary! Im glad to hear that your 34 weeker came home so quickly!
I was so scared to bring Annabelle home. She came home at 4lbs 8oz. If you have family in the area, ask them if they can help. It was a life saver for me.
Good luck and please keep us posted.
remember too, you can always call the nurses with questions! they love hearing from the "alumni" babies. and they're there 24 hours, so it's great when you're freaking out at midnight. i actually felt "homesick" for the NICU a lot when we first came home.
also don't panic if he winds up needing a little longer than they say. feeding is a tricky thing. we heard the "oh, she'll be home in 3 days" thing too, and then we were totally unprepared when that turned into a much longer stay. and it was purely based on feeding issues. either way, just know that everything will work out, the baby will be fine, and you'll do great!
