A nurse at the hospital where I had my son told me "Your son is so cute, one of the cutest I've seen... and believe me, if its a cute baby, we tell you! If it's ugly, we just don't say anything."
I really couldn't believe she told me that. lol
I think that every mother thinks they have the most beautiful baby in the world, and that is all that matters.
There are ugly babies. Sometimes I think some of them will grow into the kind of "intriguing" beauty that the fashion world values and they'll be models.
A possibility was born the day you were born and will live as long as you live.

I have always felt that A LOT of babies have to grow into their cuteness. Its like they need to get some "meat" on their bodies before they get cute. So, after a couple weeks, they finally get cute. Some are born filled out and cute. Others are just scrawny and need some meat first!

so are definitely ugly. My husband keeps joking about it. so times i think it's more if they are not proportionate which usually fixes as they age. Also sometimes how they as outfited doesn't help the ugly factor But I'm sure none of us will have that problem.

My friends and I call not-cute babies "precious." I told them that they better not be calling my baby precious hahaha. Sometimes I think babies look like little old people but just tell their parents that they are so precious.
Newborns can definitely leave something to be desired but if it is your baby it will be the most beautiful thing in the world I think.
I know only one baby that I just couldn't stomach people saying "awwww he's soooo cute" etc about, I just couldn't. Problem was I had always thought his father looked like an elephant's rear and he looked just like him, in miniature. I was biased.
Dee,
Mommy to: Sofia, born 2/9/11, as well as three dogs, two cats and a multitude of chinchillas.
I don't think children LOOK ugly- I think they can ACT ugly. Some toddlers are allowed to act however they want, and THAT is really ugly!
However, I have had some some nurses tell me they've seen babies with thick black hair down their backs!! They told me they don't comment if the baby isn't cute. She then told me my son was VERY cute. He was nicknamed Elvis because his thick black hair had this funny little combover!
My best friend became a grandmother last year. Her grandson really was, and is, a beautiful baby. I can't recall how many times she said the same thing to me: "All the other babies are HOMELY WARTS..." [compared to "her" little one].
There are infants/toddlers who are not adorable. There are a whole lot of newborns who aren't cute at all.
Agreed I just hope that I'm a parent who keeps her sanity, and only posts truly cute pictures of her baby online, etc. etc. (I still remember one new mom's profile pic of her baby son, who seriously looked like ET. I was like, "She can't possibly be so blind to think this is cute... right?")
And vflipo - LOL!

I have definitely seen my fair share of ugly babies! I'm sure even if mine is ugly I'll still think she's cute, but some just need a little time to grow into their cuteness. Others, if you look at their parents are just cursed to never be super-adorable.

I have a hard time judging babies and little kids. I don't think I've ever used the word "ugly" when referring to a child.
All I know is that if my kids are ugly, I'd better not hear anyone say it.
ahhh hahaha.agreed.
