Since you're a car seat specialist I'm hoping you can give me some advice. We're not in need of a car seat yet but I'm wanting to take advantage of BRU 25% off trade-in (since we were given a really old car seat which we never used) which ends today.
At any rate, what's your opinion on convertibles vs. forward-facing (only) car seats. DD is still rear-facing and we'll leave her that way until she's around 2. We won't need a second car seat for DS until DD's about 2 so I'm debating if we just get a forward-facing for DD and then give DS the convertible. If you would recommend this do you have a forward-facing you'd recommend? What are your thoughts on the Graco Naticulus (sp?)?
Otherwise, we'd look at getting another convertible car seat for DS (instead of the forward-facing for DD). If you would suggest going this route which convertible car seat would you recommend? I think I've seen you recommend the Graco My Ride 65 but why this one over Britax?
I hope you don't mind me asking all of these questions. Thanks for your help (in advance)!

Re: MrsGo4Hockey
Just in case MrsGo4Hockey doesn't see this before you shop. The Nautilus was briefly mentioned in this post. https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/42723400.aspx
We're getting the Graco My Ride 65 for dd when she needs to move from her infant seat. I've done a lot of research on which one to buy and it seems to be one of the ones that gets the best safety reviews.I don't know what the BRU price is but I just saw a cute one on Amazon and I don't think I'd seen that print at BRU. Good luck!

the nautilus is a good seat, if it fits properly in your car
.
I'd need a little more info before I could recommend FF over RF. How big is your daughter? Is she right in the middle of the growth curve or is she big/small?
If she's big, I'd probably get the FF seat, because she may not last much longer rear facing, and then you'll have bought an extra seat for not much return.
If she's small, I'd buy the convertible, because I will always advocate RF over FF.
If she's right in the middle, it's a little harder...that one you'd have to make a choice on.
I am not a huge fan of Britax seats. they're expensive. and they're typically outgrown faster than other brands because they have a shorter shell height. I know they have a higher weight limit line coming out, but I haven't seen anything that indicates they increased the shell height, which is a bigger issue than the weight limit.
Britax used to be the end all be all in top of the line car seats. But they really fell behind the curve when all other brands started introducing higher shell and higher weight limit seats. I do like the MyRide, but for an average or big kid, I'd recommend the true fit or radian first. Those both have higher shells than the myride, but they're harder to find in store.
Thanks for the replies. DD is a little below average in height and weight. I think at her 18 month check she weighed 23 lbs and was 32 in. I did realize that I can get some pretty good deals online so I may wait until this winter to get one. Then I can see where DD's at with height and weight.
This may be a silly question but when it's time for FF are the FF seats just as safe in the way they're constructed as the convertibles?
And are the True Fit and My Ride 65 just as good as one another (if that makes sense)?
And in regards to the Nautilus is it hard to install (by your comment of "if it's fits correctly"). It just seems nice to have 3 in one seat. Are they just as safe?
It's such a hard decision!

all seats within the same category are as safe as any other seat in the same category. So all bucket seats are equally safe, same with convertible and FFing only.
The benefit of the true fit over the myride is the taller shell. most kids outgrow their seats by height before weight, so the true fit will last most kids longer. However, for a shorter, heavier baby, the myride would probably last longer. Although it has a shorter shell, it has a higher rear facing weight limit.
The nautilus isn't hard to install, IMO, it's just that it doesn't fit correctly in all vehicles. I do think it's a great seat, my nephew rides in one
And yes, you can find really great deals on seats online. I do like the britax forward facing seats a lot, but they are a pain to install!

I have the Nautilus for ds and it is a cinch to install.
