Babies: 3 - 6 Months

pain reliever for teething baby?

My son is teething and I have read some places that you can give them some children's tylenol or ibprofin to help the pain but I have also heard from some websites not to.  I am going to ask my pedi tomorrow but figured i would ask what you guys have heard or would do yourself.  I am desperate because he is been crazy fussy/tired/cranky but of course don't want to give him something i'm not supposed to.  thanks!

Re: pain reliever for teething baby?

  • We've used Tylenol before when he's been SUPER fussy and nothing else would work and we had tried all of our usual comforting techniques.  For the in-between fussiness we use Hyland's Teething Tablets.  They are homeopathic so there is nothing in there that can do any harm.  They help calm him down and take the edge off.

  • We haven't had to give Tylenol yet for anything. We have been using the Hyland's teething tablets and they seem to be working great!

  • My dr recommended advil.  It is a weight based dose and on my bottle it says you can give it at 4 months.  I also checked with the pharmacist and they said it was fine.  It seemed to work better than tylenol for her.  I try to only give it when nothing else will work cause I hate giving medication!  Hope your LO is feeling better, teething sucks!
