Finding a OBGYN in a new city

Hi!  This is my first post on thebump :)  I just had a home pregnancy test yield a + result on Thursday!

My dilemna is:  I just moved to a new city (Chicago) about two months ago, and do not have an OBGYN yet...any advice on finding one?  I don't want to just randomly select someone b/c he/she is covered by my insurance....

Thanks!

Re: Finding a OBGYN in a new city

  • my city has a bump board.  Maybe Chicago has one.  You can ask on there.  Can you ask some people you work with?  Just tell them it's time for your annual if you don't want them to know you're pg.

    Congrats!

  • Call the L&D floor at the hospital you will deliver at and get recs from the nurses.
  • Yes, go on your local board and ask, it is a great resource!

  • Congratulations!!!!  I currenlty live in Chicago (but I'm actually moving to Phoenix tomorrow, so I completely understand your situation).  I currently go to the Women's Group of Northwestern and they are WONDERFUL!!  They are located at 737 N. Michigan Ave. in the heart of the city.  I've only seen the PA Megan, but I could not be happier with her.  I was referred to them by a friend who is currently pg with her 2nd.

  • I also live in Chicago and see Northwestern OBGYN (different practice than the women's practice). I love Dr. Gossett. I never have to wait for appointments, they do the u/s and bloodwork in office and they deliver at Prentiss which is the brand new women's hospital (I'm assuming the women's practice does as well). They are on St. Clair which is one block over from Michigan and would be on the same North/South block as the practice listed above.

Another practice that a few of my friend's like is Northwestern Women's Health Associates on Lake Shore Drive, about a block 2 blocks from Michigan Ave.

Honestly, all my Dr's are through Northwestern and I've been happy with every one of them. I think you can't go wrong with any of the Dr's affiliated with Northwestern.
