Minnesota Babies

Winter Delivery

I am due the beginning of January. Any suggestions of what I should pack to bring my LO home in? I'm a Minnesotan, but I've been living in Florida for the past 4 years, and moved back not too long ago. For some reason, my memory of MN weather in January has been pushed to the back of my memory :) I don't want to pack something too ridiculous, but I want her to be warm!

Re: Winter Delivery

  • DD was born mid-February and we had her in a sleeper and hat and put a blanket over her.  We never used a snowsuit or coat.  We just made sure we warmed up the car first.

  • DD was a December baby.  When we left the hospital we had her in a terry cloth sleeper with a onsie under it and a hat on her head.  Then we put blankets over her.  We bought one of the shower cap devices you can put over the carseat to keep them warm.  We used this and still would throw a blanket in as well.  It worked great!

  • During the winter we always put socks, warm pants, a long sleeve shirt. On really cold days we would put a blanket over here and then the carseat cover. But otherwise we just used the cover.

    Our was similar to this....

But had a flap to cover the face.

  • We were planning on just putting our LO in sleeper with feet and a hat. Then just cover the carseat with one of those showercap covers. The one we got doesn't have a flap for the face, so we're going to be throwing a blanket over her too.

And warming up the car first!

  • We brought LO home when it was -30 out! I'm sure that was a shock to his system. But like PP said, warm the car up, we had him in an outfit that had a long sleeve onesie, pants, zip up hoddies and socks. We put a blanket on and then had one of the showercap covers people are talking about, got it at Walmart. We didn't have him in a coat or snowsuit at all last winter and he was born on 12/31. GL!
  • My baby was born 1/31, we just had her in a footie cotton sleeper, hat and put a blanket over her legs, and one over the whole carseat. We never bought a carseat cover (BundleMe) because I read they voided the carseat's warranty, and a blanket always worked fine. We just warmed up the car first on really cold days.

They actually stay surprisingly warm in those carseats - my baby was sweating half the time we took her out of there.
