In all the food posts, people are mentioning far out ideas like dinner, homemade sauce, salads...chicken (shudder.)
I love to cook but I haven't been near more than my toaster in weeks. It's a piece of toast here, an apple there, maybe a peanut butter sandwich if DH is nice enough to make it for me (and he is, the prince.)
Am I just being weak willed here, and should be forcing the issue of actual meals? I should mention an Applebee's commercial came on and I had to run to the bathroom and gag for ten minutes.
Re: So, other people aren't eating real meals, right?
When I was 9 weeks, that is exactly how I was. I ate the weirdest stuff, and tried my best for it to best for it to be healthy, but it was whatever I could force down.
Meat and I were not friends. We still are not, but it is better. Chicken...ick.
It gets better. Just keep doing the best you can, and eat what seems good. Go for some lentil soup if you are really avoiding other protein.
DH made shrimp and grits the other night. I wanted to kill him.
No jury in the world, my friend.
I'm feeling the same way and it's quite aggravating! From weeks 5-9 it was pretty much cereal, toast, peanut butter, and some occasional bland pasta. ANYTHING bland. I have been eating nice, healthy lunches but by dinner time now, all I want is crap (usually something that involves cheese) And I eat about 6 bites and I'm done. (which, I guess is a good thing since I'm choosing not so great foods)
I'm hoping this passes soon and that I can get some salads and veggies down successfully.
LOL! I swear it STILL smells like shrimp in here. Bleh.
I thought of another bit of advice. I went to the store, and decided I would go up and down the aisles until I had 4 veggies/fruits, 4 protein sources, and 4 carbs in my cart. I ended up with a weird, weird combo of crap- and none of it would go together well to make a meal. But for me, it worked. One night I had oatmeal, hummas and pita bread, and an apple for dinner. Another night it was a hotdog, spinach salad, and a frozen juice bar.
Go wander through your store and see what you find. You may rediscover something disgusting (such as Chunky Soup- Sirloin Burger) that becomes your favorite food of the week!
You're a trooper. DH has been on his own (he's a great cook, so it's not too big a deal). My mom, bless her, cooked him dinner the other week, and he was so thankful.
No sex and no dinner - in this instance, I don't blame anyone for feeling bad for my husband.
You said it right! DH has been fending for himself but so have I because he doesn't know what I'm going to want. I can't remember the last time I had meat but I've had scrambled eggs for dinner a few nights so it makes me feel better about getting some protein in. The one thing that I've been consistent about liking is watermelon and I hope it stays in season at least until I get of of this trimester!
I'm only 5 weeks and 3 days (I think...this is why I need a ticker) so I haven't had nausea yet. And I love to cook elaborate meals, which is why I am cooking up a storm now so I can get my fix. I'm hoping I can still do it even if I don't want to eat it soon though. I love cooking for DH because he works so hard and he enjoys food like no one else. But, I have a feeling I'll be referring to these posts again to get some idea of what to eat.
Hope it gets better for you guys.
I love to cook as well but have been doing all I can do avoid it! I can only eat certain things. yesterday I learned that eggs are off of my list. I could not eat the scrambled eggs I ordered. I ended up with oatmeal with fruit and was okay with that. it might have been that I was starving at the point we got up and went out for breakfast. lesson learned to eat something when first waking up!
I also am learning not to take my prenatal till I have food in my system...

I think I have maybe eaten 3 real meals in the past 6 weeks since m/s kicked in - otherwise it has been snacking (mainly toast and fruit - I can't seem to keep anything else down, but I have had EXTREME m/s)
I asked my doctor about it when I when in @ 8.5 weeks, and he told me just to eat what I can now - nobody is expecting me to eat meat and potatoes (umm...barf) every night in the 1st trimester. He said if all I can eat is chicken broth, that is ok.
Hoping you feel better soon!
Real meal? What's that?
I've stopped making the effort to attempt to eat real food. It's such a waste of time and effort. Sometimes, I get the energy to walk into the kitchen and I get nauseated at the thought of eating. I can't wait to eat real food again.
I actually just made a meal for my husband (chili) ... it's a weekend, I was feeling ambitious. But I have absolutely no intention of eating any of it. I see cheese wrapped in a tortilla in my future. Maybe I'll force refried beans into the equation. Ugh, then again, maybe not.
I have had a can of Chef Boyardee Mini ABC's and 123's every day for the past two weeks. It's my weird craving for this pregnancy, I guess, and I usually make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to go with it. Peanut butter crackers usually are the first thing I have a stomach for in the mornings, I eat those on the way to preschool dropoff.
I hadn't really thought about it, but I guess I am not liking chicken right now either....I made a casserole the other day and it just wasn't good to me but my family gobbled it down. And I keep getting the yogurt parfait at CFA instead of a chicken sandwich.
I'm probably late to this party but, I started cooking things that had lots of leftovers like a huge pot of spaghetti (which I would get DH to do the meat and onions portion) so that if I felt like eating I could but he would have food for days if need be. I was cooking maybe 4 times a week but I often ate fruit or toast.
Last week though, some of my energy returned as did my appetite. I've been cooking a lot more and I'm back to eating more "extravagant" meals like crockpot stroganauf, veggie soup, white chicken chili (minus the green chilis as spice kills me) and fried chicken.
Hopefully it will get better for you in another week or so.
For the past 2 weeks I've only eaten toast with peanut butter, occassional bland pasta, raspberries/oranges, and grilled cheese. Very bland, weird cravings.
My DH has been fending for himself as well.

I'm finally back to eating mostly normal, although some things like tomatoes and garlic still seem really gross. Early on all I could eat was bread, cheese and soup. Then last weekend I roasted a turkey breast and I basically lived off of turkey sandwiches (plain, just turkey on a pita) and McDonalds breakfasts for a week. Tonight I made chicken fajitas which were pretty good. I really hate being in the kitchen, so anything quick or that my DH can grill is good.
Something really weird is that I feel better eating with my hands and sitting on the floor. I don't like the way silverware feels in my mouth. Its gross. And I feel like I'm going to lose my balance or feel pukey if I eat in a chair at the table.
