Ok I usually cannot stand those "let me give you some advice because I conceived a few weeks before you," posts, but seriously. I really want to share some well-meant advice w/ you awesome first tri ladies.
DO YOUR KEGEL EXERCISES! SERIOUSLY. DO THEM! PLEASE!
I read all through this pregnancy in books here and there to do kegel exercises for one reason or another, but just thought "Ok whatever." Even if you think you have a bladder of steel and you will not have this problem, it can't hurt. I've had a cold for a couple of weeks and I have this nagging cough that won't go away, which means I pee myself every other time I start coughing. Between the coughing and this baby's head pressing on my bladder, it's a problem. Maybe doing kegels wouldn't have changed a thing, but I really wish I'd been doing them all this time. If I can keep one other person out of overnight pads or depends by third tri, I've done my job! LOL

Well after you have the baby and everything gets all stretched out, you'll also be peeing yourself when you sneeze, cough, or when you get pregnant again, then you'll be peeing yourself while you have morning sickness and are throwing up.
Thankfully it hasn't been too bad for me, only a serious sneeze or cough (or all the time now with morning sickness) but my poor friend we'll be sitting around and she'll sneeze and say "opps, just peed a little, be right back."
Not sure if kegels work, but just saying it only gets worse once the baby's out.
Starting doing them while reading your post. DH asked me why my face looked so weird. Guess I better work on the face if I am going to do this in public. Lol.

Thanks so much, this makes me feel much better about doing them. I'm only 7 weeks, but have already started on my way to doing 10 reps of 10 second Kegels, 3 times a day. And then, 20 quick flexes (is that the word?) in addition.

I was actually reading an article recently about how kegels do more harm than good and that squats are actually what we should all be doing to strengthen our pelvic floor.

Thanks for the advice. I just found out I'm preggo w/our 1st & we're exactly 4 weeks today, so I'll take any advice. When I read your post it reminded me of book I just purchased. I went the book store the other day to get a baby name book & I picked up two other great reads "What to expect, When your expecting" by Heidi Murkoff & Sharon Mazel, this book is great & if you have any questions or are wondering about anything, this book covers it. The other book is "Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy, I just started reading it & laughed so much, it's a great book to read no matter what trimester your in. If you haven't heard of those books I would highly suggest them, just a thought though.

kegels never helped me. I'm on my fourth pregnancy. I still do them. They still don't make a single bit of difference.
