1st Trimester

Desperate to take 2 aleve....

My intense headaches have persisted for several days now, and I'm desperate for relief. I've woken up many times in the middle of the night the past few nights with terrible headaches and a very sore neck/shoulders/upper back.

I've tried everything, to no avail. Would taking 2 aleve make my baby be born with 5 legs???

Thanks. :)

  • Tylenol is safe, have you tried that?

I would check with a doctor before taking anything else, personally.

  • They say don't take Aleve.  That's all I need to know.
  • I wouldn't if I were you. I would take Tylenol and drink lots of water. Aleve is a class C drug. Www.safefetus.com

  • Take some Extra Strength Tylenol.  Naproxen Sodium (Aleve) and ibuprofen are not recommended.

  • I've been drinking 12 glasses of water per day, and taking extra strength Tylenol. No change in the pain in my head/neck.

Thanks though. I guess some women throw up, and some get terrible headaches. :o

  • I've had mine since Thursday with varying degrees of pain.  Tylenol doesn't work, neither does caffeine.  I tried Vicks Vaporub on my forehead where the pain was and it worked once but then came back few hours later.  Also tried ice pack, cold towel and even heating pad.  Nothing is working. :(  I so desperately want to take my exedrine for migraine medicine which ALWAYS works wonders for my migraines but it is not safe during pregnancy.  Wondering if this pain will EVER go away.  At my 10 week appt. my doc said migraines tend to come on around 12-14 weeks as the hormone levels taper off.
  • Uh oh.  I get headaches regularly (for years) and Aleve and migraine medicine (prescription and Exedrin) is the only thing that really helps.  I have a lot to learn.

The Vicks thing is a good idea, though.  I sometimes use Head-On, but like you said, it only dulls the pain.  It doesn't treat the headache.  But, if it gets you to feel more comfortable or to sleep, use the Vicks or go buy a stick of Head-On and use it every couple of hours.

I am right there with you.  Heck I even took a half dose of Sudfed (which while on my docs safe drugs list still makes me nervous.)

But I have little to no ms, so I guess I am suffering this way.

  • with both pregnancies i had horrible headaches where i couldn't do anything and tylenol just makes my headaches worse. my dr and i had two different dr's with both pregnancies told me i could take ibuprofen but only in small doses. they said there is a point where you have to take care of mom. my last dr i had said that ibuprofen isn't safe if your popping it like candy. it might be worth calling your dr. a bad headache could be signs of other things if you don't have a history of them.

  • I took Excedrin Tension headache and that really helped me.  That one is safe to take.

Hey there, I get migraines and my doctor said it was okay to take excedrin. In fact she suggested it if I got a migraine.  It really is only a high dose of caffiene.

  • It sounds like you are truly miserable - I'm so sorry!  I would give your doctor a call and see what he/she says before you take Aleve.  Its on the "do not take" list for sure, and while I know Tylenol (at least for me) is pretty worthless as a bad headache pain reliever, I would definitely want to be sure anything beyond that I took was ok'd by my doc.  GL!
