2nd Trimester

If you own a doppler...

How often do you use it, and how long does it take you to find the baby's heartbeat?  I got mine on Weds, and have used it a few times already, this morning I had more trouble finding the HB.  I thought it was going to help aleviate some anxiety, but maybe its just the opposite!

  • Everone told me not to get one that i would make myself crazy, and they were right! lol.. I got mine about 2 weeks ago and i have gotten lucky maybe 3 times that i can hear the heartbeat. I am hoping it will get easier to hear the further along i get. Just relax and keep trying. Mine was a lot lower than i expected it to be also. I thought it would be near my belly button, but it was very low on my abdomen. Good luck!

  • I have the Angelasounds doppler.  I used it almost daily from the day I got it (around 15 weeks) until I felt consistant movement.  Plus, I recorded her heartbeat to a cd at 18 weeks so my dying father could hear her. (he was pleased!)  The first time I tried to find her heartbeat it took a few minutes becasue I was searching too high.  I finally found it loud and clear way down there on the left side very close to my pub line. (sorry..tmi!)  After I figured out how low she actually was it only took a few seconds each time to to find it again.  Good luck!!

  • I bought one around 14 weeks. At first it took a few minutes to find the h/b, but once I knew where it was I could find it pretty easily. When I was that early, I always found it pretty low in my pelvis.

  • I have a Hi Bebe doppler. I found the hb at home around 13 weeks. I use it about every other day. Sometimes I find it right away and sometimes it takes a few minutes.

Try not to worry about it. The baby is still very small and moves around a lot. At my 12w appt which was at 12w2d, my OB couldn't find the hb.

  • My situation seems to be rare.  I've been able to find my LOs heartbeat since 9 weeks and I can find it everytime within 5 seconds.  Since 13 weeks, as soon as I set the probe on my tummy I can hear the heartbeat...like LO is just waiting to play...and then sometimes LO swims away and I have to catch him/her.

Like I said, my situation seems to be rare, don't fret about the doppler.  Try again later with a full bladder and pull your legs up so your heels are behind your butt and your knees are in the air.

  • My doppler says right on the box to wait til your 14-16 weeks. I actually got it in the middle of my 15 weeks. Only had one time where it took about 5 minutes to find the hb. Other than that, it works great for me. Find the hb everytime within a minute. But my baby has been staying in the same spot too. Haha. My SO and my MW were totally against the doppler just for the stress factor. But I still like to use it and hear LO whenever I please. :) Good Luck!!

  • I have the Sonoline B and it's worked great for us. I could find the heartbeat after a minute or so of searching around 11 weeks, and usually quicker now that I'm further along. I use it maybe once a week or once every few days.

  • I use it almost every night - since 11w6d - and have found the h/b every time.  Although a couple times it takes me about 15 minutes.  But I don't give up!  I love it.
