I thought there was a certain order in which you were suppose to give your LO baby food...I was always told to start with rice, than oatmeal, and then Barley, and then on to the orange veggies- sweet potatoes, squash etc...and then on to the green ones, and FINALLY then fruit.
I remember ppl telling me that you have to do the veggies first before fruit bc once your LO gets a taste of fruit they will not want the veggies....However, I have noticed quite a few of you on the boards who are giving fruits and then veggies....so...is there such a rule????
Gianna is on Oatmeal now, but I was going to give her sweet potatoes tomorrow and start her on that...Is that right?
Re: Baby Food: Order?
I've heard that the "give veggies first" thing was kind of an old wives tale. The very first thing Hayden ever ate was banana, and she LOVES peas & carrots, so far, too.
Other than paying attention to what food they can have during what months, I've just been making sure to space out 4 days between new foods. I never heard before that there was a particular order like that. I think as long as you stick with things that are appropriate for her age, you are fine!
Have fun!
There was a nutritionist at the mommy and me group that I go to a couple weeks ago. She said there is no order for foods. She recommended the Super Baby Foods book. I have it. I love it. It is fantastic. I will admit, I haven't read it cover to cover but I use it as a reference.
I also have this cookbook and it is fantastic. It breaks down the food by months that are mild enough for babies and guides you through 18 months. Some of the recipes look delicious enough to cook for the family.
The first thing that K ate was apples and she loves peas, sweet potatoes, and zucchini if it is mixed with a little bit of pear. She loves, loves, loves pears.
THIS exactly.
