recs for vax/breastfeeding friendly pedi in spring/tomball

Does a dr like this exist in this area (or surrounding areas)?  We currently go to 1960 Pediatrics--Texas Children Pedi Associates.

 Anyone have a reccomendation?  Thanks!

  • Are you meaning for non-vax?

We go to Dr. Singh in Tomball, Pediatric & Adolecent Ctr of NW Houston.   They won't kick you out of the practice for non-vax but you will get a small lecture with every well appointment about vaccines.

However, I will not see Dr. Tonya Suffridge in that practice.   She is fine when you go in for a well appointment and decline vax (other than the lecture) BUT if you go to her for a sick appointment she basically blames you and tells you it because your child doesn't have all their vaccines.  Regardless of the fact they don't have an illness that is "prevented" by vaccines!

I have several friends that go to Dr. Tad Shirley off of Spring Cypress and he's pretty much a push over and will let you do what you want.

  • I cant speak for the vax side of things, but I absolutely love Dr. Sufferidge (per pp). I saw her just this morning and she was very helpful and supportive with my breastfeeding. I also have seen Dr. Fowler in that practice and like her as well.

But as I said, I cannot comment on her vax stance-I intend to vaccinate.

Sufferidge is pretty much a HUGE *B* when it comes to someone that doesn't vax!   Last fall ds was sick and I went to her, had no problems with her prior, and she chewed me up one side and down the other and told me that any time ds was sick she was going to send him to the hospital for vials upon vials of bloodwork, chest x-rays, and u/a.   She definitely uses scare tactics, she basically told me my child would die because I didn't vax.  I was LIVID.   I did take him to get the labwork that one time because it was right around the whole swine flu hoopla but I have never taken him back to see her again.   If I go to the Tomball office I will only see Dr. Singh there.

I do like Dr. Fowler and Dr. Anew (I know the spelling is not right, even though that's shortened to begin with) out of the Champions office (I don't think they go to the Tomball office anymore).   However Dr. Fowler seems to be a little more irritated with parents at a well child check-up without vax, but is extremely helpful during sick visits.

Dr. Anew is more of a "pushover" in the since that she tends to back down quickly when a parent has a strong opinion.   She doesn't have a strong backbone/personality like Dr. Fowler and Dr. Sufferidge.

  • We see Dr. Tiffany Burns at Methodist Willowbrook.  We are doing an alternate shot schedule with no issues.  She was very open to my schedule and what I wanted to do.  She understood and gave her opinion about what she thought and so forth.  She is a family doctor so my whole family sees her (H, two teenagers, me and our 2 month old).  Her assistant is also really good and recently had a baby (8month old).  Dr. Burns is very open to BF.  In fact the last time I went in, I had to BF my son in the room because she was running a little behind.  She did all of the checks that she could while he was feeding.  We talked and discussed the little man until we were done.  Got his two shots and moved on.

  • Thanks! I do vaccinate just slowly. We've always gone to tx childrens 1960 pedi assoc but they are too busy IMO. My dr suggested that I give ds cereal in a bottle at night to help him sleep. I felt the same pressure with dd to start solids early. Id prefer someone more laid back. IMO they should make suggestions rather than pressure me to do things I'm uncomfortable with. Mostly I don't like the impersonal feel there. I waited 40 min for one vax on Friday.

I think you might do good at Dr, Tad Shirley's office.   He is new to the area, his practice is about 3 years old (maybe a little longer than that) so you get a more personal experience there as he is trying to build up his practice.

My friends that take their kids there say that a lot of the time he calls you back if you have questions, not the nurse.   So you have a lot more interaction with him.

I see he just added another doctor to the practice, I can't comment on her but my friends like Dr. Shirley.

I've never been to him, I looked up his address and he is in that area.  Looks like on Spring Cypress, right past Champion Forest, going east.

Dr. Singh's practice (which has Fowler, Anew, and Suffridge) has an office right there on Champions Forest near that intersection too.

Anyway, his address is 8714 Spring Cypress, Ste 200, Spring, 77379

  • Thanks for the recommendations!
  • I see Dr. Burns as my doctor and I love her. I hadn't thought about using her for the baby though....maybe when he gets older.

See received an award for the best personality in the hospital--and she deserved it! I have never seen her in a bad mood.

  • With my first we went to Cypresswood and saw Sandifer and (can't remember her name) another dr who went on maternity leave and then part time so I went back to Sandifer.  We moved and I transferred to Lakewood on Grant and Louetta to Belinoski.  I like her but they are just tooooo busy and she's impersonal b/c she's busy.

This is who we use.  She is busy.  She has never been so busy that she didn't answer all of my questions though.
