The shredded cheese I buy says to use within 7 days of opening the package. I though cheese lasted a long time as long as it's refrigerated. Does it really go bad that fast or is the cheese company just trying to get me to buy more cheese?
I just learned (today) that on the bags of pre-shredded cheese they put plastic on the cheese to keep it from sticking together. I'm not buying those bags anymore. lol.
But, I used to always use them longer than 7 days and they were fine.
Ours keeps waaay longer than that. What kind do you get?
I usually get the grocery store brand. I'll have to check the name brand bags next time I go to the store. I just noticed it tonight, and I certainly feed L out of the same bag for more than 7 days. I don't eat cheese and DH rarely eats shredded cheese, so I buy it mainly for her consumption.
I never paid attention before, but I have actually noticed lately on a lot of cheese (not just shredded) that it says use within 5-7 days of opening. We have some organic sliced cheese in the fridge and it says use within 3-5 days of opening. I had always used cheese longer, but have tried to use it quicker with DD now.

I never have to worry about a 7 day rule cause we use it so fast.

If it doesn't smell weird or look fuzzy, I consider it still good.
