nap questions

do you still rock to sleep your LO for naps? do they fall asleep on their own? how do you do it?

sara is already down to 1 nap (since she was 11mo!) and sleeps for 30 to 60 minutes...she still needs to be rocked in someway to sleep

since this week she is refusing to be rocked (yelling and kicking) which leads to like 1 hour of trying to get her to sleep or finally giving up and going out for a car ride (always works but I don't want her to get used to it)

so today I decided to let her CIO, I put her in her crib and the yelling started but only lasted for 4 minutes...now I'm here looking at the monitor almost 20 minutes later and she is still very awake, running around her crib but not complaining at all

so my question is what do I do now? I just let her be till she eventually falls asleep?

Re: nap questions

  • My opinion is that as long as she is quiet, then let her play. She may eventually fall asleep or she may decide she is done playing and not tired in an hour or so but at least she was quiet during her "nap time."

  • that's what I was thinking too!! but she just fell asleep!! woot woot!! after 50 minutes but fell asleep on her own!!

she fussed for like a minute before falling asleep and finally did holding one of her socks (she took it off obviously!)

    she's too cute!

  • We were never really able to rock them to sleep (since I haven't been able to rock 2 at once since they were newborns) but we do have quiet time - read a book, watch 10 minutes of nick jr., snack, etc...

I put them in their cribs awake - today DS cried 15 minutes but that isn't normal for him - I think it is because we are transitioning to sippies before naps instead of bottles and he was confused about not getting a bottle.

If your LO is happy I would leave her - she is safe and it may be her version of quiet time before nap time.

  • the watching tv worked for us for like 2 weeks..she liked (or got bored) by curious george but now she screams when she see its! LOL

I'm so glad she eventually fell asleep on her own even if it was after 50 minutes!

she has been asleep for 40 minutes now which I alredy consider a pretty good nap!

  • I rock him but not to sleep.  I just do it enough to relax him.  He will talk and play in his crib sometimes (like right now), but he eventually falls asleep.  He normally doesn't cry unless he poops.  We did cio around four months.  Since then, we've always put him down drowsy but awake.

  • Rocking is my last resort.  We used the bouncer chair way too long, and DD was quite dependent on the motion.  But when we finally packed it away I had similar issues with crying in the crib.  It just got better with time, maybe 1 week.  Now it might take 30-60 min before she actually falls asleep, but I just let her play in her crib.  I check in on her every so often to lay her back down.  But I am grateful when she finally goes down, her naps last anywher from 1.5-3 hours.
